Will be there for about a week at the end of July and would appreciate any suggestions for places to drink, eat, etc.

Thanks in advance.

ETA: sorry for the dyslexic typing before.

If you don't mind driving to Santa Fe, I'd recommend a place called Maria's. My husband came on a business trip with me in Dec 2000 and the Sheraton in ABQQ recommened it to us. We went and it was great then went back again in Sept 2008. It was as good a we remembered. Lots of locals eat there.

I've got plenty.

Touristy but still decent:
El Pinto. Huge restaurant. Huge patio.
Gardunos. Regional chain that has good margs, decent food.

Not touristy and awesome:

Barela's Coffee House - get a bowl of green chile with beans or a chicharone burrito.

Mary and Tito's. Small. Old. fricking best carne adovada you can get. Try the turnover.

Sadies. Kind of getting touristy because of its reputation, but the salsa is legendary (and hot), the portions are huge and the food is good. Go with a chicken burrito with green or green chile chicken enchiladas.

Las Cuates. Typical New Mexican food, but done well. The salsa is different in a good way. Blood red and almost like sauce.

Frontier. A legend for its cheap, good food and the fact that it's open all night. It's a huge, rambling place that has great carne adovado burritos, green chile stew and cinnamon rolls.

El Patio. Nice, quiet restaurant near UNM campus. Really fresh ingredients. Try the green chile chicken enchiladas stacked and with a fried egg.

Just remember, you're in New Mexico, so you won't get Mexican food and you certainly won't get Tex-Mex. Also, they don't call it the land of manana for nothing, so if your service is slow, relax, enjoy a tasty beverage and be glad you're alive.

And if you're looking for a place to have a good beer or drink, check out Anodyne on Central.

Have you been to the link above I provided... Padilla's mexican kitchen? I haven't been since I was a teenager, but I think that's the place my parents took me to... they used to live in Albuquerque before I was born and used to eat at a place called Mexican Kitchen, I just don't remember the Padilla's part. Anyway, I still want to go back there, just wanted to know if was still good.

It's absolutely still good.

Most of the smaller Mom & Pop-type restaurants like Padilla's are good because they don't get fancy. They stick to the standards, and the standards are good eatin'.
