Rouses Market has a good selection of "salads" ...chicken salad, egg salad, tune salad, potato salad, macaroni salad, cucumber salad, sweet pea salad and possibly ham salad.
Nope at least the one in Baton Rouge. I checked the deli counter guy (after going through all the packaged stuff). They don't carry it. He said he's never heard of it.
I'm going to Honey Baked tomorrow and see it they have it.

Honey baked is good. Calvin’s used to do it but not sure they still do. I wasn’t a huge fan. This what we had as kids at home. I need to make some.
I'm glad to see I wasn't crazy asking about ham salad.

My grandmother hated ham salad. It was a regular item in the Baptist church womens circle menu. So we never had it, and always heard about it when it was served.

I've got to admit that not many people around here have heard of ham salad.
I did a GOOGLE search and it was easy to find. If anyone is still curious about it then do your own search.
Thanks

You're not crazy Yat. I think it was last really popular in the 50's and 60's. It has been around a while, there was even an episode in Downton Abbey where Isobel Crawley got really upset with her reformed hooker cook Ethel because she didn't make Ham Salad like she asked for luncheon!
I last had ham salad about a year ago when my mother made it for a roadtrip. Thanks to this thread I actually made some today. Damn it's good. I like it on Bunny Bread or Daves Killer Seed
My recipe:
cubed ham pulsed to fluffy in the ninja
mayo
diced red onion
sweet relish
splash of yellow mustard
red wine vinegar
pepper
letting it sit in the fridge a few hours really helps IMO.

Your comment about being popular in the '50s and '60s are right on. I commented I used to eat it as a kid. Well I am 73 years old and that time frame is right in my wheelhouse

Boneless hams were uncommon in the 50's, and carving a fully bone-in ham produced lots of small bits. Some went into the pot to flavor veg. Others went into hand-cranked meat grinder with a coarse die. Mayo was mixed with the ground ham and maybe some chopped dill pickle. That's it...kids' food
Deviled ham was similar but with a much finer grind and a longer list of spicy things.
I associate ham salad with sugar-cured ham, and deviled ham with "hard ham"... pepper/salt cure and a long hang.
