another great weekend in new orleans

Hotel St Vincent FRI/SAT/SUN, three nights of Billy strings at UNO
Friday night we at at crepe nanou, a longtime favorite. Love this place. Mussels, frites, escargot, onion soup and tropical salad with crabmeat. Fantastic
Saturday we walked to turkey and the wolf for lunch. We’d never been and really wanted to try it. Didn’t disappoint. We had the collard melt, fried bologna and the cabbage salad. It was great, glad we went.
Late night after the show was a greasy burger at beachcorner. As usual a superior burger and a great hang to wind down. One of the very few places that actually cooks the burger to your requested temp.
Sunday we started with bloody Mary’s at the rusty nail, then after a nap went to ancora for pre show pizza. Very good and super friendly place. Funghi pie and an onion/peppers/sausage pie. Outstanding
Leftovers were spot on on the tailgate in the lot after the show.
Today we headed out, stopped at francolini’s for lunch. Cold roast beef with onion and horseradish, hot beef with peppers, and an egg/copa/cheese. Black eyed pea soup. Unreal. Highly recommend

Had lunch there today as well. I love that place so much.
I have not had a bad sandwich there and I think I've had 8 different ones. I always try to get something new.
Today was The 94 and the Elmer Fudd (repeat, but so damn good).

So, you stayed at the St. Vincent and did not eat at San Lorenzo? That was a big miss.

I’m not a Nanou guy but excellent choices for other meals.
I’m sad how empty Ancora is most nights. This is a great lil pizza joint & the employees rock

Damn solid list. Ancora is one of my favorite spots in the city. Pizza is always great plus an order of gnocchi or meatballs with a side of toasted sourdough

Drove in from BR sunday and went to Tana in Metairie for dinner then UNO Lakefront for Billy Strings. Tana was very good, the stuff focaccia bread was my favorite.
Was my first Billy Strings show, was blown away, such an awesome show

Ancora is one of our family favorites. They must treat their employees very well, as most of the wait staff seems to have been there for ten years or so. Sometimes when we go it is sparse and sometimes quite lively. I think it pulls well from the neighborhood.

Would have loved to have gone but I'm on crutches after having ankle fusion surgery and can't put ANY weight on my repaired foot and wasn't going to chance it.
Been following him for a couple years now and he's a great guitarist. He's done duet shows with some of the greats over the years and I especially liked his performances with Tommy Emmanuel and Molly Tuttle.

At my age----71, I'm not fighting that crowd. Just had my second post-op Drs. visit today and x-rays show I'm healing fine with the bones fusing well but I've got a minimum of 3 more weeks on crutches and in a boot to immobilize the joint. I'd not want to chance a setback at any time, and all it would take is a misstep to mess things up.
Maybe next time.
