me too. but nothing i could get for lunch in BR is going to match the sauteed snapper or roasted squab that im reading about at the gautreau's restaurant online menu right now.
Sue Zemanick has a great skill for cooking seafood. It is a great restuarant.

It is also quite romantic...should be a good dinner for you two.
Perhaps some post-dinner drinks at Cure or Columns...it would be the best date manicorn has ever been on...

You will have to find a place to stay in NOLA as well...if you get drunk....I hear glassman has an extra bedroom.

He has enough game all by himself, but I am a little bored and thought I would help a brother out.

TA is a good dude.

If he's a first time visitor to NOLA and only staying for 6 hours then there's really no choice... you'd be doing him a disservice if you don't go to the Quarter, see the river, and see the houses on St. Charles Avenue. Commander's Palace would take up to much of your time... instead, why not take him to something distinctively New Orleans? If he wants a real flavor of the city you'll take him to Cochon or Herbsaint.

i will forward my friend those links too. Ive been to Cochon. It was wonderful.

Cochon is fantastic in every way, shape, and form, but it is absolutely not the "real" flavor of New Orleans.

Also, Rex, can you tell me why you believe that Cochon is real NOLA flavor?
TIA

It's a decent enough place, but it's coonass cooking from SW Louisiana.

Cochon is cajun food (and excellent cajun food at that); New Orleans is creole food. The french bistro places glass and TA are listing are what I think of as modern New Orleans cuisine, while a place like Commanders is typical of the traditional creole food.

Cochon is more of a Cajun than Creole restuarant. Very hearty and earthy. It is very good, but not really heavily NO influenced. Places like Commander's, Clancy's and Galatoires(to name a few) are much more a true taste of NO.

Not to mention that Cochon or "Butcher" don't exactly seem like places that are an aphrodisiac.

I think a stroll down Royal St. and the Jackson Square area are musts for a 6 hour trip.
If I had 6 hours to show a Brit NOLA (4pm-10pm):
4-6:00pm- Walk Royal St., Chartres, Jackson Square, River.
6:00-6:30pm- drive them around the Garden District.
6:30pm-7:30pm- Pre-dinner drink at Columns Hotel.
7:30-9:30pm- Dinner at Commander's Palace or Clancy's (no French or Cajun...give them Creole).
9:30pm-10pm (they would just have to stay up until 11pm b/c I said so): Polo Club for drinks/Jazz.
This sums up NOLA in 6 hours (as best as possible).

Hopefully this gal won't be tacky enough to ask for some Katrina rubbernecking...

well he is now skeptical about gautreau's because they were chatting online and she said something about hating all things french with the exception of wine and a a few aspects of french cuisine. so, i will def pass the info along in case he is not still lurking around the thread.
