Adding wood to Bourbon

Anyone here ever added oak chips, toasted oak, charred oak, etc to an existing bottle of bourbon? Not the pricy stuff but a regular bottle of let’s say turkey 101, Buffalo trace, Evan Williams, etc.
I added some oak chips to the last quarter bottle of Buffalo trace for about a week. Results had a sweeter taste. Not much but it was there.
Just curious if anyone has played around and found doing so improved some flavors of average bottles.
I have a toasted oak stave in a bottle of old granddad 114. Will check the results later.

A friend bought me one of these a long time back and I have aged all sorts of stuff in it. Adds a strong oak flavor, but I wouldn't say it duplicates the real thing.
Always tastes like everything had seasoning added after rather than cooked with it; if that makes sense.

I bought some french oak staves that fit in a bourbon bottle to do what you are saying. But after doing a little research, very little research, it seems getting good results is very much a crap shoot. I intended to do some more research but got distracted by something else.

yeh, nothing is precise and not looking to make Mellow Corn taste like Old Forester 1910. Just something to play with and for the most part doesn't seem to make the bottle worse. Just different
Neat to fool with

No, but I have a cocktail smoker that will add a bit of smoke flavor. Usually use it for Old Fashioneds.

You add wood to white dog. I wouldn’t ever add anything to a decent bottle of bourbon. I figure that it’s the way they intended it to be. Haven’t gotten close to any 5+ year barrel yet with chips or staves in white dog. If you’re looking for easy drinking, go buy some Red Breast.

Just for playing around with cheep bourbon like wt101 Buffalo trace etc.
changing those profiles and a kinda neat.
Definitely wouldn’t do this to my better stuff.

I feel like the people who made the bourbon knew what they were doing with the wood more than me, so I wouldn’t mess with it, this I too have a cocktail smoker that I enjoy

It would only be for cheap stuff. I have a few bottles people have given me as gifts that are fine for cocktails but pretty mundane to drink neat.
