Name one advantage a bottle has over a can?

A bottle is made of glass and glass is flavorless (unless you rub shite on the rim of course)

For drinking a beer its the only advantage.

Of course its also:

Very easy to bottle on a small scale without a ton of equipment.

Bottles are reusable too.

Bottles dont have a lining that some feel can cause cancer.

Some people feel that if you peel the label off of a bottle you are sexually deprived. The sexually deprived people of the world cannot do anything with a can. So there is that too.

I would rate it differently for myself

1)Can poured into a glass
2)Bottle poured into a glass
3)On tap (lower due to not knowing if beer line is clean and I hate when you get the dirty beer line headache)
4)Out of a bottle
5)Out of a can

If its my own beer and beer lines I would have tap at the top though.

Look, I enjoy much of what Abita Beer offers but to me, in my experience with a multitude of beers, Abita should be better than what it is.

There are several other breweries in the south and close by that are better to me.....not to mention the great craft breweries throughout the US.

So how can you really hate the canning movement if your favorite way to drink beer is from a can?

My order would be:
1) On tap
2) Can poured into a glass
3) Bottle poured into a glass
4) Out of a bottle
5) Out of a can

Because he doesn't like beer straight from the can since he says he can taste the aluminum on his lips, which doesn't make much sense to me. Unless you are french kissing the can, you shouldn't be tasting any metal with your lips, since your lips can't taste.

This is the alternative to peeling the labels from the bottle.

I thought my first post was stating that the problem is most people when given a beer in a can will drink from said can? I have seen many people pour a beer from a bottle into a glass but in reality I cant think of ever seeing anyone pour a beer from a can into a glass.

I listed it #1 because it would be the purest form of the beer. Its not something I do.

Same thing has been discussed before with Canned soda:

quote:

There may be other reasons why the taste of soda would vary with the packaging. Despite enormous advances in can-lining technology, canned soda dissolves bits of metal through microscopic holes in the coating, affecting the flavor. Again, the degree of degradation is a function of storage time and conditions—the reactions happen more quickly if the can is warm. The problem was worse when cans were made of steel, but some people are still capable of detecting the aluminum flavor. (Glass is both impermeable and flavor-neutral, but soda in glass bottles is not as common in the United States as it once was.)*

Of course if this were true I would have to remove it from my #1. Everytime I have tasted aluminum has come from drinking it from the can dont have experience pouring it to see if it really is the same.

LINK

Of course soda has a differnt ph than beer would so not sure if the lining holds up better either.

Coke is used to clean off corroded battery cables, so I don't think that just because soda can dissolve a bit of metal that beer would necessarily do the same.

I've had Abita in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. It's just not a good beer...

Beer pong became a fad it seems after I got out of college. So I may have played it once or twice but wasnt something my generation was big on like it is today. But that would be a good example. But Im guessing most people drink shite beer when playing it too.

That is why I mentioned the above.

The point though is that many people do taste aluminum when drinking beer from a can for whatever reason. Its not something limited to a few posters on TD.com

They make several kinds. Some are good. A few are great(the select taps). I don't really find any of them bad so to speak.

You say this like they make one beer... or did you have them all?

Also I think they'd be better off investing their money in bottling a couple selects every year instead of a canning line.

I agree 100%. I love their selects. It seems they are having pretty good success with their Andy Gator, SOS, and Abbey Ale in the 22oz bottles. Put the selects in regular or 22oz bottles.

I guess like other have said, they want to try to keep up with NOLA and go after that mardi gras/tailgate market, etc.

NOLA is doing a great job all the way around. I am loving their brew.
