If you are going to post a recipe, at least put real measurements and not "12 bags of zataran's." Zataran's comes in various sizes.

IMO your recipe requires way too much work and ingredients, but that's just me.

That is Milton Zatarain's recipe from the 70s. There was only one size bag back then. And these were boil in bags, not bags of powdered spice mix.

sure times have changes but I think this recipe is not terrible

It isn't as terrible as some on here are making it out to be.

It's a lot of seasoning (about 6.5lbs of seasoning for 6 gallons of water) but most of it is base seasoning (herbs and salt). Most people don't realize they are getting the same things in the premixed seasonings they buy today.

Mention boiled crawfish recipes in this state and you will get opinions all over the place and everyone thinks their way is the best.

Well, Sub, I'll sure take this under consideration...

exactly my point. all the things we use today are concentrated forms of the recipe in the OP.

Can't be stated often enough...

I think it would be about half that if you're including 2 1/2 lbs of salt and only spices (not vegetables). The bags are only 3 oz each. LINK

Salt= 2.50 lbs
Bags= 2.25 lbs (12 bags x 3oz each)
So 4.75lbs with out other seasoning. It may not be 6.5lbs but it's definitely 5.5+lbs.

Like I said earlier, most of it is base seasoning and not pepper.

the lemon or garlic liquid zatarains smells or tastes nothing like allspice or bay leaves

did I say lemon or garlic? Damn you're dense as hell. All of the liquids contain spice extracts that blend to make the liquid. But as you can see, Zat's liquid contains bay extract and artificial spice flavors (which may or may not be similar to allspice).

Louisiana brand liquid contains:

Water
Polysorbate 80
Spice extractives
Oleoresin paprika
Sodium benzoate
Potassium sorbate

I have no idea what half this stuff is but La brand liquid blows anyway.

liquid zats has trace elements of bay extract? holy hell well let me just dump out all of my liquid boil on the ground when all i needed was some damn bay leaves. you see how silly this sounds? modern spices have evolved over time and thankfully, our crawfish dont have to taste like a low country boil.

WTF does this even mean??
