Taken from here.

Since those images don't really give you the best perspective of how high the water is, I am 5'11 and standing at the edge of the water the levee comes up to my shoulder (so 5 and a half-ish vertical feet from the top of the levee).

There is standing water in many areas and a continual trickle of water across the north bound lane of 327 (River Road) and into the ditch (has been since Wednesday or Thursday) just south of Lake Beau Pre.

The river doesn't crest for another week and we have weeks of extremely high water after that.

I'm truly worried for the folks south of BR.

Yeah. I guess I'm just missing something, everybody keeps saying, "oh, we will be alright.. they would let us know if we need to evacuate"

I don't live in BR but my daughter lives off Nicholson near Bluebonnet. I had no idea the river turned so close to Nicholson. I'm so worried do I need to be?

Not really, and even if things get bad as long as she is on a second story or something she will be fine

not really unless there is a breach or something.

We own a house in the Nicholson lakes neighborhood. Not a two story. Backs up to the farm that corners Nicholson and Bluebonet.
I guess it's a breach I'm most concerned of. Thanks for the help. Hard to be so far away and only have the internet to keep abreast of things. She's just a happy go lucky college student and probably oblivious to whats going on.

I'm in that neck of the woods too. There are weak spots in levee they've known about near that area. Sand boils are popping up all over there now too but its on the other side of Gardere about a mile down.

Just south of the Iberville/EBR line they are putting HESCO baskets on a section of the levee (guessing it's a low spot).

What worries me about all of this is that since this is all one giant floodplain, any breach along the levee is going to be bad for everyone in the plain.

What's a HESCO basket?

Basically it's a big container that is made of some type of metal wiring (imagine 4"x4" squares or so) that has a heavy duty liner. You can fill these with dirt, sand, etc. We used Hesco baskets in Afghanistan to create a perimeter boundary when we would go out and build new forward operating bases in the middle of nothing. We also used them for creating make shift bunkers/shelters.

Basically it's a very large burlap sack in a wire enclosure and filled with sand or dirt.
