Why? Did they have no-trespassing signs out on the levee? I don't know how they can arrest you for something 'assumed' to be illegal (such as walking on the levee when the water is high).
They are taking it very seriously (as if we touched it with our pinky it would break). My family actually has some land on the levee and we can't even go on it. I am all for them going this extreme measure to make sure no one fricks with the levee while it's fertile.

If there isn't warnings or signs, the most they can do tell me to leave right?
The guy told me that they were giving warnings then arresting them if they showed back up. This guy may not represent all of them though. He was a cool dude.

I agree with you...I'm just trying to figure out if the police have a legit reason to arrest me if I am walking up the levee to take a picture when there isn't signs or barriers out. I'm thinking the worse thing is them telling me to leave

I went up top several spots of the levees today, and the area near the LSU Vet school looks really vulnerable. I have nothing else to back it up except that the water was already really high in that section.
I can only imagine what it will look like in a week.

I have no idea to that question then. They have signs at the Arkansas levee side and that is basically your warning. Not sure how it is where you are.

Yea I go up on that running path a lot, I was planning on going this weekend to take a look

It's high but what really got me is the speed that the water is moving. It's blazing through that area. I'm surprised they don't need the big boy tugs yet.

I was thinking that they will obviously close off that running path. I'm thinking when it gets really high I will take a left off of Brightside and head down about a mile where its a bunch of farmland with no one around. Maybe park on the side and walk up to check things out

That area was deserted today. I guess that stretch of the road is always lacking a human presence. Lots of cows though.
They are definitely patrolling though. I saw two levee police riding on top, and the one guy that stopped and talked to me.

It's not closed yet. They still had people riding bikes and jogging today. In my uneducated opinion, it's not nearly high enough to close yet. By the end of next week though, that LSU area path is gonna look scary as shite.

Dude, go take your pics. If a cop happens to show up while you're up there, all he'll do is tell you to leave. (Unless you give him good reason to think you're up to no good)
If they've got barrier tape and signs strung across the toe of the levee, you might want to be really quick about it!

Normally they will let you walk on it pretty much anytime just not driving but this one is going to be high so and times have changed so they might just completely close things off. Especially to dark complected men aged 18-35 with burlap clothes.
I haven't read this whole thread. I think if I have a few hundred thousand dollar mortgage in University Club I don't think you could drive a straight pin in my arse with a sledgehammer. We have the best levee's in the country right here but you just never know. There is a reason Highland Road is named Highland Road.

I haven't worn burlap in years!

I was hoping some people north of here would start posting some pics of the river stages. I've only seen 1 or 2 in the past day or two

Check page 40 of this thread... someone's been taking pics along the levee here in BR, and he posted them there. Apparently, you're still cool to run up and take your own pics, at least for a week or so.

If Pedestrian Traffic is closed - The River Center has a pedestrian "Walk that extends about 40 ft past the Port Side of the USS Kidd - I was there yesterday and had no problems. Water level was well past the concrete base and headed up the seat/step structure on the river side of the levee.
