The word I got from someone I trust is that they will open it tonight. That fits with the river forecasts, which call for 1.5 million kcfs at the Red River landing tonight.

They said it was just received from the governors office.

Current readings at the Red River gauge is hovering near 1.49cfs (the trigger for opening the spillway is 1.5)

ACOE and the State of Louisiana been saying for at least two weeks that there was an above-average chance that Morganza would have to be opened due to the historic nature of this flood. We've been discussing it here at TD for at least a week, if not longer.
If that isn't enough notice for someone with even a few grains of common sense to think: "Gee, maybe I should pack up all my valuables in advance, and get ready to relocate to higher ground on short notice", then that person is way beyond help.

You would think all the Humvees and Military personnel would've tipped them off?
They've know for several days...it's not like it was a secret that there was a strong chance the the Morganza would be opened.

I am pretty sure, but who knows? If think everybody knows to stay out of the Spillway right now. I drove in about 100 yards yesterday and it was deserted. Also, water will not instantly appear in Morgan City or Amelia the second they open the Spillway. They have to open it one gate at a time, and it is probably 100 miles as the water flows from the gates to Morgan City.

I plan to kayak from Bayou Fordoche to Amelia. It ought to take about twenty minutes, riding the wave!
