goal of morganza according to friend

my friend told me, he works for the advoacate and I guess he talked to someone high up or just who knows stuff IDK.
But he says that their goal in opening morganza is to try and keep the river level at the level as it is know.
Does this sound like what they are trying to do, and is it a reasonable goal
meaning it will stay around 44 feet which I think it is about now.
does this sound correct?

that's the logical thing to do. the river can handle its current level (or at least it has so far), so they'd want to let out as little water as possible to maintain that level so that they don't wipe away too much of Morgan City

That's actually their public goal (not a secret or anything). They want to keep no more than 1.5 million cfs in the Mississippi past that point. They will open up as much of Morganza as needed to keep the flow at no more than 1.5.

Why do you think it has been opened?

That's what the COE said today. It is at 1.5 Million CF/S, and that's where they plan to keep it. They will open more gates to keep it at 1.5, and they think the will eventually divert 126,000CF/second to keep it at that level.

Yep. That has been the plan for quite a long time, and they seem to be sticking to the game plan here. I am not at all a fan of the Corps, but I have to say, I think they are handling things quite sensibly here.
