It is roughly 5.5-6.0 feet from the top. Being 6' tall, I stood at the base and my viewing plane was parallel with the jogging road at the peak. Pretty scary to think it isn't cresting for another 11 days!
Here are some pics:

I've never understood why people want to go and look and take pictures!
"Look ma, here comes da wata!!!!! derp derp!"
Like the family taking picures...why? So you can say "I was there when it was this high. You don't believe me? Here, look at these pictures!"
Sorry...not trying to be a douche, but it's like other people are making light of it, and i live directly across from it.

Get out there while you can. It can't be too much longer before they stop allowing people on the levee at all.
I usually go from there to the horse farms and back after work. The dock across from Lake Beau Pre was under water yesterday. Being on the levee and looking at the water level then over at the Brightside area...

Well personally, I went to go take pictures because I am intrigued by this flood...and also to post them on here. I don't know why whole families were all getting their pictures taken infront of the water though

it should be between 1 to 4 feet from the top of the levee at its peak at that point. I think the top of that levee is 51 feet.
if morganza is opened it will be 3 to 6 feet from the top.

You think it annoys you? That's where I run/walk everyday after work. Yesterday the damned parking lot on the other side of the road was 1/4 full when it usually has only 4 or 5 vehicles in it. And all those damned people in my way!
Go out there around 6pm this evening, you would swear someone was giving a concert.

I understand the morbid curiosity that you describe, but I see whole families going out like this is some event equivocal to a lunar eclipse...it's not a celebration...it's a flood.

i think about this every day when I drive by the levee on the way home, I am underwater but I am dry
as in when I am driving i am lower then the water that is only about 10 to 20 feet away
The crazy thing is if the levee doesn't breach everything will be ok.
IF it breaches, If I survive my life will be turned upside down.

I live in Lake Beau Pre and have to go by the vet school lot and i noticed that it was almost full. It's just indicative of how ignorant people are. They'll be laughing even when their homes may be threatened...as long as they can post it on FB.

If this thing breaches, it will make Katrina look like an everyday spring shower. No one will be evacuated and there is no warning for the rush of water.
Thank god I live on the 3rd floor

It's a historic event. I can understand why people would want to go see it when it crests but right now it looks like it did in 2008.

Seems like it's a sort of event at least on par with that. Hell, the Mississippi being this high is a much more freak occurrence than a lunar eclipse.
I'm not sure I equate curiosity about a rare, possibly once in a lifetime such event, to a "celebration."

Celebration may not have been the correct term to use, but I just don't see why families want to go "hang out" by the rive and be reminded that there is potential for devastation on a scale that is massive.

I think you're being a little dramatic about this. The people aren't causing the flood. Would it make you happier if they offered to help you evacuate?

People may not live long enough to see another flood event of this magnitude. It is probably the same people everyday so they can see the changes from their last visit. I am really surprised this bothers some of you so much.

Yep thank God... If levee breaks you will be joined by roaches, mice, rats, snakes, no power, not enough food, no place to go but out of a window, no running water... Sounds like you have a plan!

I just wish they would stay off the levees...that would make me happy.
Do they have a right to be there? Yes (for now). And if they want to go look...so be it. I can't and won't stop them, but it's just an annoyance and it's something that I fail to understand.

I guess it's the same reason people film tsunamis, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. While I agree that posing for a picture by the river like I'm at Disney World is pretty stupid, you can't ignore that we are all intrigued by things that are completely out of our control - regardless of the devastation it may cause.
