Little rough around the edges, but it was my first attempt with the particle system. Still looks kinda cool imo.

looks cool. Can you do this with an uploaded image of a person?

I was thinking of a CFB coach or player getting cut.

Perhaps you could make some of Saint Nick's oversignees disappear.

Are you using a material mask to determine where the particles are being emitted from on the geometry?

Nice work.

Yes. Gradient ramp determines where and when particles are emitted, another gradient ramp tells the logo where and when to dissolve.

Can you do this in reverse?

You might have fun trying out an animated 'slice' modifier with 'cap holes' applied after it in the stack. You can animate the location of the slice's gizmo and as it cuts away the mesh, cap holes fills in the new cut edge. (Only works well on pretty simple/square geometry though)

Add a mesh select (set to faces) and material modifier and you're mesh select will automatically select the faces from the cap holes modifier (the cut edge faces) and pass them to the material modifier.

That way you could actually have the cut in your geometry spawning particles.

Your stack would like this:

Text
Slice
Cap Holes
Mesh Select (set to faces)
Material (set to ID of choice)

Anyway...sorry, can't help myself sometimes when it comes to Max. Love that program.

Also, a simple 'particle age' material in your opacity slot can do cool stuff.

Goodness that is great stuff. If I can ever learn that one....I'll be bad to the bone!
I seem to hear that Kansas song Dust in the Wind in the background!

that is awesome NGOP

is it possible to reverse that so that the particles form the letters LSU instead?

I like this one better. TigerRantMan99, there actually is a way to make the particles form the letters, but I haven't played with that yet...so for now here is the quick and dirty...frames reversed..lol

WOW!!!
It's probably way too much trouble, but wouldn't that be cool to do each week during the season. Have the opposing team's initials or logo disappear, then have your team's appear.

Do it for SUNO, and just get rid of the S.

Very sick work.

The "white" spots are still visible though. The areas where the glare shines off the letters.

Not that I could do it any better..
