from what i gathered, the rep who introduced the bill voluntarily deferred the bill from that session because a sudden outcry from these groups. Basically they were emailing legislators telling them not to back the bill. from what i hear, these people have some pull

I think LA is one of only 5 states that continue to make it illegal. I linked an article the other day, but can't remember if the other 4 states have made progress.

The video poker people probably don't view DFS as the direct threat, but open the door for that and online poker next, etc.
