What's the trade atmosphere like in your league? I was reading Berry's love/hate list and he did his yearly trade advice section. Got me thinking about how the "experts" always talk about trades as if it's so easy to just go get a player, but that's rarely the case. What's it like in your league and what do you prefer?

For me, in my main league we trade fairly regularly. 8 so far this year and our trade deadline is next week. In my other league, there is almost no trading, 1 this year.

I much prefer the league with a lot of trading. Makes for a much more enjoyable and competitive league, because you can make up for bad luck at the draft by making the right moves. Plus it doesn't guarantee that the guy who lucked into the 5th round stud at the draft remains the best team.

What are the board's thoughts on trades?

Wish it’d happen more. In two main leagues, there were a total of 2 trades.

We also have FAAB though, so that helps roster MGMT in the event someone has holes to fill and doesn’t want to trade

My two leagues rarely trade. There was one in each this season.

Yea I think that's fairly typical. It's a shame, because active trading makes it so much more enjoyable.

Each league is different. I'm in 3 money leagues and each has its cons and perks.

In my family league, it's pretty straight forward and easy to do. We do have one member that charges an absolute insanity for anyone on his team, which I've just ignored any and all trade talks with. I'll never forget this one he sent me last year, Rob Gronkowski for Julio Jones, Mike Evans, and Jordan Reed.

I'm in another league that I was brought into via a friend and he actually dropped out, so trading is really a non factor in that one. There's one guy I semi talk to but he just tries to rip you off so I don't really deal with that one. There's not much of a need to either bc they don't really keep up w/ free agents so I can almost plug and play someone if need be each week.

In my last one, it's an absolute nightmare. We've got a commissioner who abuses power and said commissioner is in my division, any time you so much as even mention him being unfair, he explodes. The next thing is that when a trade IS passed, it needs 5 (12 man league) to be passed or its overturned and as you can imagine, most league members will vote depending on how it helps them. The simple ones pass but me and a guy just struck up a deal where I'd send Alex Smith, Chris Hogan and Derrick Henry to him for Tom Brady and Joe Mixon. It was vetoed.
This will probably be my last year in this league unless there's a new commissioner.

I wasn't even getting into this, but that is the absolute worst. Vetoing trades should not exist in my opinion. The default status for a trade is that it should go through, and if there was obvious collusion the league can come to the commissioner and point it out, then it can be reversed. Of course, if the commissioner is a shite head, nothing you can do.

Vetoing trades should always exist, but like you said.

The 2nd one is easy money, I'm 9-1 right now with a BYE locked up so I've already earned my entry fee back (so long as I win the first playoff game). As for the last one, yeah I'm probably bailing after the year is done, the drama is absolutely unreal in it.

Buck Allen for Bell is 100% not veto-able.

Its a bad trade, but its not a veto-able trade.

You can't just veto a trade because its bad.

In both of my leagues, as I think is the case in most leagues, you have people who are reasonable and unreasonable in terms of trading. We've had quit a few trades this year, but it's usually among the same 6-7 owners. It's irritating but some people just don't understand how to trade.

Totally agree. And this is why I don't think veto should be an option. Because as long as it is, people will do it because, hey, they're allowed to. Get rid of the veto, and if you have legitimate concerns that a trade was collusion, mistake, or some form of unfair play, take it to the commissioner/league mates to address your concern. If the guys who made the trade can't present a reason why it was done, at that point, cancel the trade.

not at all, you can't just veto a bad trade.

You can't punish an owner for getting a deal done that works in his favor.

Vetoing bad trades hurts the integrity of the league.

The only thing that gets vetoed is obvious collusion.

Why would you punish the owner for making a deal and convincing the Bell owner to give him up?

Thats idiotic.

I’ve been the victim of that before

People tend to forget trading is a two-way Street. It’s especially hard to make moves at the top of the league. Instead of viewing a trade as having the ability to help both parties, if often hurts first, second or third place owners because league mates have the POV they don’t want to help their opponent have an even stronger team

League I’m in on here doesn’t trade.

I even went out of my way to offer Hopkins and Fournette for mark ingram and it was declined. I thought it was hilarious

People often times base things on pre season rankings. My league is like this often. I offered a guy in my league Melvin Gordon and Davante Adams (Pre Rogers Injury) for AB and he said "why would I want you 5th round draft pick WR, when I have a first rounder."

Some people just have a dumb way of looking at things and you can't change it. Which is exactly why no league should have league votes. Commish veto power is the only acceptable answer in case of obvious collusion and if the league is not shite, then you shouldnt have collusion issues anyway.

I send out trade offers to see who is interested in talking, some offers are worse than others but it is to get something going.

I've made two trades this year. League overall has made 5. There is a lot of talk throughout the season tho it just depends on if the two parties can get it done.
