I'm in a FF keeper league (auction and contract years at play) that currently has no trade deadlines. Trades prior to playoffs are few and far between because won/loss records tend to be within a victory of two of qualifying for the playoffs. Everyone is still competing to make the top six and teams mathematically eliminated tend not to have much to offer in trades.

A trade deadline is being discussed for next season. What's the board's thoughts on optimal timing before no further trades are allowed? How many weeks before the playoffs?

Any leagues where trading is stil permitted during the playoffs?

Should always have a trade dealine if you ask me. 3-4 weeks before final week of regular season. Want to try to allow trades as long as teams have something to play for. Once it's becoming clear people aren't making the playoffs should be around when trade deadline is set.

I have a 13 week regular season. Our trade deadline is after all games played after week 10. I may even move that up a little earlier. I think it is VERY important to have a trade deadline. Even if, as you say, it is rare, and most people don't do it late in the season, the rule eliminates any hint of impropriety.

If you're keeping a lot of players from year to year, I don't think a trade deadline is a necessity. I know a lot here will probably disagree with me

In my leagues it's week 11 (3 weeks prior). If a team is mathematically eliminated before week 10 (rule in place b/c it happened once and they tried to trade w/ their brother) then that team would not be allowed to trade once eliminated.

For my keeper league, we open trading up the day after the final playoff game. We also do not allow for future trades (player for draft pick...) bc no one wants to keep up with that shite.

That's my thought. I have a dynasty league. I have Melvin Gordon, Julio Jones, and Michael Thomas hurt. I need to make some deals.

We're still trying to work this out in my six years keepers League. Every time this time of the year there's a "crazy" trade that brings back the deadline discussion and we always decide that we'll leave it as is, and there's always a vote on trades.

Yesterday for example L Bell was traded to a non contender for D. Johnson+Cooper+Eifert. That trade is fair for the two owners, but it really fricks with the other three teams in the semi finals.

(Bell has keeper value of 25 in that league - 200 budget - which is insane and gives him a great head start for next year, Johnson/Cooper/Eifert probably won't be kept because they have very very high keeper value).

I can see both sides of this.

Yep the dollar value aspect skews things hard. I'm in a baseball league where $1 keepers are like water in the Sahara.
