Makes it more fair imo but still allows some for the luck factor.

Not trying to be an a-hole, just honestly want to know - Why is this a good thing?

Because that's some people's argument against the top 6/bottom 6 format. They like the whole luck aspect of head to head matchups. I'm in another league and I didn't even bother suggesting it because no way it would have passed. I think it's a bullshite argument but this is a compromise for that.

I agree with you. I can't fathom why anybody is in favor of more luck being involved in something like this.

Why not just do total points throughout the season and top 6 make the playoffs?

I just charted my league, by just doing total points its entirely different than doing High/Low. My team was third in total points, but if it breaks into High/Low I would be 6th.

My only thought with high/low is maybe it devalues the work you do on the WW every week? Guess it depends on how competitive the league is but knowing I only needed to score in top 6 would impact alot of the moves I made or risks I'd take.

I mean, that really just devolves into why are you in a league where half the players are absolute chumps who you don't have to worry about?

Yeah I haven't played FF much so I don't know what's competitive by comparison.

Seems like a high-low / total scoring hybird would be most effective. Like you get points 12-1 every week for where you finish or:
1-3: 5 points
4-6: 3 points
7-9: 2 points
9-12: 1 point

Then top 6 total points move onto playoffs where you have a similar format over 3 weeks. Cause even in H/L you go H2H in the playoffs, correct?

If such scoring doesn't exist maybe I should patent that idea. haha

. The only argument head-to-head has is that's how it's always been done for most people and they don't like change.

This is pretty much the opposition to making the change in my league. No one was able to articulate an argument that actually made any sense against me. I guess for them it's an "if it isn't broke then don't fix it" thing. I'm always tinkering with things trying to come up with better ideas.

eta: the funny thing is that I have usually had good luck with matchups the last several years. My wanting this isn't even to benefit me specifically. I just want to make things better, but people don't seem to see it like that.

Same. Through 11 seasons, I have the highest winning percentage and have made the playoffs 10/11 years. This kind of system doesn't benefit me in any way, but I'm for it.

How many championships do you have?? Tell them how many times you've taken home the bacon.

yeah I have people that think I'm trying to game the system every time I try to change shite....but in the end everyone ends up liking the tweaks.

I haven't decided if I like extra flex yet or not though

Fast forward to 3 years from now, we will be seeing threads asking benefits of ditching kickers and team defenses in favor of extra flexes.

To those that are playing, does it deminish the Sunday/Monday night games?

Does it make it feel like less competition since you are competing against the entire league instead of just one person?

Quite the opposite.

SNF and MNF are lit when multiple guys and teams are in play for the W.

Most H2H matchups are done heading into these games. Rare a W is safe in top/bottom heading into the night games

Dude, it makes them way more interesting. That was the selling point of doing it - it brings so much more excitement. Like it or not, in most leagues you have about 3 teams that suck and aren't interested after week 9 or whatever. With this format, every week is meaningful to the top teams and they get no passes or guaranteed wins that you might get in traditional head to head.

No doubt. To me, that change has been sooooooo much better.

I say this in the nicest way possible

I've noticed over the years, the more novice players on this board always object. I'm talking about the people who can't set their own lineups and play more for fun

The most competitive, cut throats leagues I've been apart of use it. People who have been playing awhile. It's just a better system all around.

There is a level of competitiveness there knowing you gotta do the work to make the top half. It's a constant grind

I'm in 5 leagues, 3 are 10+ years old. I put 60% of my time into TDFL and 10% of my time into the rest

shite wrecked the player pool. Im sorry, but if someone wants to hold multiple defenses and kickers then so be it. That change didnt add one ounce of fun to the league.
