Chase Utley (2B) - Philadelphia Phillies
(Mon, Mar 28 - 2:58pm ET)
Chase Utley (knee) offered no timetable for his return when probed by reporters Monday.
The Phillies don't seem to have a great grasp on how serious his knee issue might be. "We're going to kind of let my body dictate how it's going and make progressions from there," Utley said. "I think at this point, we want to take steps forward and not backward, and so far we're doing that." When asked if he will be back before the All-Star break, the second baseman replied, "That would be a goal, yes." Troubling stuff.

Marle normally has you as a top 3 in his rankings but you let him down.

main reason why i went Prado with my first pick, NOBes. he has 2B and 3B eligibility. he will shortly have OF as well. i would have loved to go Perez or Putz there, but I felt that best overall value for my team was Prado at #3

I would have taken him and I got Cano.

Solid assessment Lester as always.
I was happy to get a couple of closers. Now I just have to wait for Latos, Cueto, and Aardsma to come of the DL

i'm not a fan of Prado batting leadoff. it will help his runs, but most likely hurt his RBI and HR

1) Thanks for doing the analysis and work. It's always enjoyable to read.
2) I took Belt because I really like his bat and I feel he'll get 400 ABs this year. I had to take him at 1 because Boo and his stash of picks were right behind me and I didn't want to chance loosing out on him. Everyone compares young players to Mark Grace (which you did as well), but not many people race through all three levels of the minors in their first year with an OPS as good as his. He'll be a regular by June and I anticipate a future all star. The fact that Sabean and Bochy are even considering breaking camp with him, speaks volumes IMO.
3) Regarding my not playing for this year, you'll notice that almost all of my minor league guys were keepers. After Belt I waited until my last three picks to take a prospect (I only took one). You yourself said I was a year or two away in your keeper evaluations. In my mind I was just putting the finishing touches on what I believe will be a great set of keepers in the future.
4) I feel like I accomplished what I wanted, while grabbing enough pitching and closers to be competitive this year. Barring a string of injuries, I will not be keeping any MiLB guys next year. I just needed some place holders (Chipper for Mous, Francisco for Brown) and one final prospect.
It'll be interesting to see how some of the guys at the top do this year.
Thanks again for the analysis.

He was #1 on my list, you were correct in your assumption.

people taking closers so damn early really messed my shite up
I was hoping one would fall to me at 51, but there wasn't much left. I felt I was lucky to get Rodney (even though he sucks) late in the 7th.

reddfig taking posada in round 4.....WTH was up with that?
Going in, I knew only me, you, and Port were gonna need a catcher. I told myself that if Posada is there at 51, I'd take him. If not, then I'd try to land Saltalamacchia late or take a late flier on John Buck. Worked out OK for me I think.
As for Alex Gordon, I had been keeping an eye on him all Spring. He was one of the few guys that I felt comfortable reaching for. However, I picked 19th and not again until 51st. After talking with a few guys, I got the impression that he wasn't going to make it to me at 51, so I went ahead and grabbed him at 19. It may blow up in my face, but I just have a hunch.

I'm pretty sure Lester Earl kept him. (Someone kept him, or I'd have taken him early on... think it was LE.)
