TDBBL Week 4: Make TDBBL great again.

so you guys. thus far, this league to me has been pretty damn boring. no one is going into the waiver pool. no one is making trades. no one is participating in the league wide chat.
week 1 people said it was because of the world series.
week 2 it's early
week 3 since i didn't start a new thread, no one did.
week 4 here we are now.
now i'm not trying to say we shouldn't have changed. i just want to know why you guys aren't participating. we redid the league to make it more fun. we upped the ante. we encouraged more people to play.
are you guys enjoying this? am i crazy? this league is MORE fun than the one that preceded it?
to me, there's a couple of problems: we front loaded all participation and action into the auction draft. we made the rosters too deep (too many roster spots). teams have everybody they ever wanted and so the league is stagnant. there's no reason to curry or brag or discuss or deal. no reason to play for the future, just the decision to double down on your draft. it's just a steady influx of games and stats.
i also feel a general apathy. not a single person has filled out their trade block.
if i'm wrong and everyone is loving this. i'll shut up and just play the year out.
but if i'm not, i'd love it if people spoke up. we all paid $100 for this. might as well be fun.

i think it's a little early to call out the trade issue b/c it's very early in the season still
people don't even know what they have in terms of teams, yet.
this year is going to be a long learning curve for all the teams

Loving the format, loving the roster sizes, loving the keeper twist.
Trades will come, hard to know where you are this early in season.
If this were old TDBBL, people would already be selling out for next year.

fair. but i'd rather be early on a trend than late.
how do you feel about the league? are you enjoying more less or same?

There's already been a few trades this year, and we are just in week 4.
You won't have the volume of deals b/c you can't trade picks for players and you won't have the 2/3 for 1 consolidation keeper moves. Both are good for competitive balance.
Everything about this set-up is more strategic than old format.

we can be proactive not reactive. and last year's clearly was problematic as well.
if this is a process, then why can we not tweak? no one is blaming anyone for getting anything wrong. but we used to have a way of shifting things if it made the league more fun. i believe it was 75% in season votes.

so are there any proposed tweaks or fixes that could make for a more interesting league?
my initial response was an immediate skim of the roster slots. we couldn't in the settings, but we could enforce a mandatory cast back of a # of players to the waiver pool.
trying to think of other ideas.

Well yea, there's a huge emphasis on the draft. So it's naturally going to be front loaded. The draft in the old format was pointless.

To me, the early season strategy is day to day management of rosters- which $1 guys to you hold onto hoping they become a good $6 keeper, how you navigate the 45 gp limit without streaming, etc
Trading will come as owners adapt to value under the new rules. And there's no tanking, so it's make moves to compete or be left behind.

another move that encourages stagnation.
so maybe what i'm missing is that this game strategy is extremely long term. but not as quite engageable on a daily basis.

I could care less about that...we just disagree completely. I didn't come up with this set up on my own. It kills the last few years of bottom 7 teams selling out (even playoff teams) before February. You had a couple years where you completely checked out / stopped setting your lineup after the first month of the season. You weren't talking in the weekly threads. I look at my lineup at the beginning of the week and tweak it as I go. I am glad that I have the ability to add guys here and there but am also glad streaming is not a huge factor. If you aren't "having fun" I'm sorry, I just don't empathize at all.
