Normally I would try to take RB with my first 2 picks. Well obviously I’m taking McCaffery first. By the time I pick again all of the really good RBs will be taken and I’ll be left with the CEH, Mixon, Montgomery, Jacobs types. I’m sure I’ll be able to get at least one really good WR at 20 (maybe Hopkins or Metcalf). My dilemma is do I take another great WR (maybe Jefferson) at 21 or reach for one those RBs mentioned above? WRs are a lot deeper than RBs. Who knows what RBs will still be on the board when my pick comes back around at 40/41.

My league confused me like never before this season. We have keepers and it counts as your first round pick. 10 people kept and all but 1 was a RB. This has never happened before which I didn’t keep and I had the 11th pick. I took Tyreek Hill. To me the RBs that were left weren’t first rounders and I also felt they were ranked higher than they should be.

I was shocked. It’s one of those moments when you have an idea of how you will draft and then all of it went out the window in a moment. Most articles I’ve read say to take two RBs first two rounds, so expect not much RB wise coming back to you. I think you will have better options than you think at WR. However, every league is different.

Obviously starts with knowing who you're drafting against, league settings etc. first.

But...

10 teams. Plenty of talent throughout the draft. About differentiation with the top players at their position early on. Strategies could include looking to maybe either 1) get two RBs by the 5th or punt and go "best available" until later in the draft to get your second RB. You have the Elite RB there already. Coming back to #1, in that range, get the best available.

Possible targets there:

QB
Mahomes
Allen
Murray
Jackson

RB
Carson (not likely)
Montgomery (maybe?)
Robinson

(Maybe reaching for Gus Edwards?)

WR
Robinson
Woods
Kupp

I know the mantra is wait on QBs, but this year, getting a Top 6 feels better. WRs are VERY deep throughout the draft, so to me, I'd lean on getting one of the elite QBs and the best available RB2s there.

I didn’t draft a wide receiver in my draft until the 5th round. Feel really good about how my team turned out. Loaded up on receiver potential in middle of the draft. I feel like I always end up picking up a few good receivers as they develop throughout the year in free agency anyway.

There wasn’t any of top tier receivers available in the second round anyway. I picked 6th. Adam’s, Diggs, hill, Metcalf, Jefferson were all gone. It is a keeper league so some of those guys were kept. My first pick I kept Dalvin Cook.

12 Team Half PPR league

QB - Dak Prescott
RB - Dalvin Cook
RB - CEH
WR - Julio Jones
WR - Kenny Golladay
WR - Corey Davis
TE - George Kittle
Flex - D’Andre Swift
K - Prater
Def - Miami

BN - Michael Thomas
BN - Mike Williams
BN - Darnell Mooney
BN - Michael Pittman
BN - Michael Carter
BN - Rashad Penny
BN - Trey Lance

Don't reach right there. There are other RBs like Edwards, Carson, Javonte Williams, Damien Harris, Mostert, etc later in the next few rounds that you can get. Grab a couple of those WRs if they're the best available or even get an elite TE if you prefer.

I would do some mock drafts and try a couple of different strategies to see which you would prefer.

Holy shite. I've been doing mocks for the past 3 days and haven't seen Diggs or Hopkins make it that far in any of them.

If you don’t like Mixon or CEH then grab a WR.

I’d prolly pass on Mixon but I’d take CEH at the turn, but I am high on him this year. In fact, I was in your spot, 1st pick in 10 team half PPR and ended up with CMC, CEH and Calvin Ridley as my first three picks.

If it was half PPR, I’d say double up at WR without hesitation but since it’s standard you should consider at least CEH or Mixon at the turn.

I'm in a 12 team and had 1st overall. I know the numbers are different but I was very happy with how my first 5 rounds went.

1 - CMC
2 - Jefferson
3 - Montgomery (I think I'm higher on him than others)
4 - Amari Cooper
5 - DJ Moore

I had every intention of grabbing a RB at the 4-5 turn but I couldn't pass on Amari and Moore. Be ready to go off plan if the right players fall. I finished w/ CMC, Monty, Gus (this was before Dobbins injury), Sermon and Michel (scooped off the waiver after the trade.)

Our draft was last night. I was able to get Diggs at 20 and Hopkins at 21. Then I got Julio(40) and Michael Thomas(80) also.

I picked CMC first overall. My other 2 RBs are Mostert & Gaskins which is not great. I'm pretty WR heavy. Maybe I can pull of a trade to upgrade at RB2 once M. Thomas is playing.

Mostert is fine, but IMO you have to have Trey Sermon as well even if you have to reach for him.

Pretty sure Sermon is a FA at the moment in our league.

You need him, badly. If he's a FA, list your roster and let's talk about who to drop. Mostert had a history with injuries and Jeff Wilson won't be back until at least mid-season. If Mostert is out, Sermon is going to be pretty much a must start.
