OK, I'm sorry if this whole question is really stupid, but I'm just not getting it:

It appears that there 8 scoring categories, taking FGA/FGM and FTA/FGM as one category (+1/-1 = 1 overall point)

So is it like other fantasy leagues I've been in that it's 8 points that you compete to get by having the higher number of statistics than the person you're playing that week, and then have a total point total determine playoff positioning? Or am I off here?

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but the whole FGA/FGM and not just FG% and no 3 pt category is just kind of throwing me off here.

Whats confusing? You get -1 for FGA + 1 for FGM +3 for 3PM = 3 points
Ok, so there is like a total number of points overall you can get each week from each stat, not just winning a specific category giving you 1 single point for that category?

Like it's not you a 5-4 score means you won that week, its more like you win 150-140?

Yep, it's all point, no categories

Research is a bit more difficult because it appears most people do cat leagues. In those, a guy like Blake Griffin wouldn't go that high because of his poor FT%, lack of 3's, etc. In this league, he's a top 20 pick.

Huh, ok

So you're saying that % are less important, and filling up numbers is more important?

Cause I have Melo sitting there at pick 11 (where I pick) and I wasn't going to take him because he's a chunker. Now I'm reconsidering...

Very true, he will average over 20 fantasy pt/gm. He's a 1st rounder in this league, IMO.

Why the hell is that? Guess I'll have to settle for LBJ

Why is he a top player in this league as opposed to others? I'm a fantasy b-ball noob.

So just to try and get as much advice as possible, because the scoring in this league is a bit different than I'm used to, a guy like say, Marc Gasol, who is an average scorer and rebounder, but with amazing FG% and FT% is pretty meh with this set up

But guys like Melo, and guys that fill up a lot of different categories (Paul George for instance) are good.

I'm also assuming one-category guys (Ibaka or Larry Sanders) are not quite as useful either.

He's still a beast in this set up. You may not have to win FG% per se but every FG he misses is still -1. Maybe not 1st round material but still to 20-25.

For reference, here are the top per game scorers last year:

LeBron
KD
Varejao (hurt)
Kobe
Harden
David Lee
Duncan
CP3
Horford
Melo
LaMarcus
RW
Curry
DH12
Wade
Noah
Griffin
Rondo
Al J
Parker
Vucevic (beast)
Love (hurt)
M Gasol
Kyrie
DMC
Greg Monroe
Smoove
B Lopez
