According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Padres are only interested in signing Jorge Cantu to a minor league contract.
Cantu hasn't drawn a ton of interest this winter. In fact, the market for him has been rather weak. But with a decent .274/.320/.446 career batting line and the ability to also play third base, he should be able to do slightly better than a minor league contract. Some more suitors could step forward as teams look to add corner infield depth heading into spring camp.
Interesting...they like Headley more than Cantu too.

What do you think of his bat speed and stance - is it conducive to a Bautista type turnaround at this stage of his career?

News: With the acquisition of OF Vernon Wells, MLB.com reports Bobby Abreu is expected to be the Angels' primary designated hitter with Wells, Peter Bourjos and Torii Hunter the front-runners to man the three outfield spots. The Blue Jays traded Mike Napoli and Juan Rivera to get Wells, freeing up more at-bats for Abreu.

Analysis: You really have to wonder what a move to DH can do for Abreu's career? It seemed to rejuvenate former Angel Vladimir Guerrero's career when he moved to Texas in that role last year. It was less wear-and-tear on Guerrero's body and staying healthy helped him return to his status as one of the game's best hitters. Durability has never been an issue for Abreu, but the fact he might not be as exhausted could help him be a 100-RBI threat again. Add to the fact that Wells and the return of Kendry Morales means more lineup protection. Consider Abreu a top 25 Fantasy OF heading into 2011.
Damn straight.

It takes a lot of self convincing to keep Abreu, no?

I've been set on keeping Abreu since last season ended. It's you tards out there that don't think he is worth it. I will continue to post articles that support my claim until the fricking cows come home.

You could've just drafted him!
Look into Will Venable, he will be better than Abreu this year. Fact!

Bobby Abreu would not be available at #14, when I pick first.
And who would you suggest I keep over him? JJ Hardy?

Im just talking, it's a slow day. I took a sick day expecting to get some dealing done but it seems no one is here.
Abreu is good people

i'd quit the league if i had to keep Abreu

You should quit the league regardless, imo.

abreu was only brought up because you said you'd keep him over catchers like Napoli and Geovanny Soto. which made no sense. i just felt like making you eat your words that day
i don't really care if you keep him or not. He's worthy as a 11 or 12 keeper.

Keeping Abreu over Napoli and Soto makes no sense? Really?
