I think the guy disowning all of his relatives is the best one, but this one is pretty quality as well. She's a lesbian, BTW.

I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY NOW...

This is the darkest day ever for America. We've elected another Hitler all over again.

Millions will lose their health insurance.

Our Muslim friends will live in fear.

It will be ok to sexually harass women and insult people with disabilities.

The KKK and other hate groups will grow stronger.

Our LGBT friends will no longer be free to join their partners in marriage.

Women will lose their right to choose what to do with their own bodies.

The free press is now in danger.

Our friendship with Mexico will dissolve. Our Mexican friend's families will be torn apart.

Our long-time alliance with NATO will be severed.

Our planet will continue to die.

The 1% will grow richer as the middle class disappears.

There will be more war.

We have lost all respect of the rest of the world.

We have elected an unstable, vengeful Narcissist. A Narcissist with power is a very dangerous thing.
I'm terrified for the future for all of us who aren't the white rich male.

Posted in the other thread as well, but this is just glorious. She's blacked out her profile pic and cover photo now, too

quote:

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
I think like many of you I woke up in horror and disgust to a country where ethno-nationalism and white supremacy motivated a large percentage of America to vote for Donald Trump, an exceptionally unqualified and threatening demagogue, to the highest political office in the United States. Equally, if not more so, terrifying is Mike Pence, the man who will be the Vice President, a man who does not believe in global warming, thinks cigarettes do not cause cancer, and a man utterly committed to harming the LBTQIA community. These two men with the backing of a GOP-led Congress and a conservative SCOTUS will likely, based upon the vaguest hints of policies that they have revealed, attack decades of progress and erode the rights of millions of Americans who are not white men. There will be attempts to strip away a woman’s right to choose, marriage equality, health insurance in the form of the Affordable Care Act, to name a few of the hallmarks of progress in this country.
On the crux of the tipping point to halt or mitigate climate change, an unapologetically capitalistic opportunist has taken power and floated the idea of someone in the oil business to head the Department of Interior. There is an urgent need to act aggressively and decisively to stop the worst effects of climate change, yet the party in power does not even believe the scientific evidence that it exists. In a similar vein, Trump is considering a Goldman Sachs executive for Secretary of Treasury. While Trump’s presidency represents an existential threat to American democracy, his toxic rhetoric did not appear out of thin air. The legacy of the United States' unwillingness to confront its history of racism and the mainstreaming of far-right ideas in to the GOP are some of the many contributing factors that led to his rise to office. As well, Trump’s success mirrors how the far right has been in ascendancy around the world, as some writers have posited: “in reaction to the stagnating global economy”: LINK /
On a purely political level, with Hillary winning the popular vote, I think we should question the relevancy of an Electoral College for federal elections and begin to push for its removal. The one bright spot is that most young voters (aged 18-25) voted against Trump and that their values seem to fall towards a progressive agenda.
The question now is what can we do to fight against the oncoming storm of legislation that will attack members of our black, disabled, Latinx, LGBTQIA, immigrant, Islamic community members. I am not a politician and I am not someone with any power or influence, but what I will do is stand up and speak out. I invite everyone to get involved locally with politics and grassroots organizations to protect community members. Donate to the ACLU and hold Trump’s administration legally accountable, since his administration has already promised several unconstitutional actions. Protect yourself from Trump’s access to broad sweeping surveillance powers using the TOR browser and other similar cybersecurity measures. Support organizers that combat global warming, fight against racism, and for women’s and LGBTQIA rights: LINK
Protect and defend the most vulnerable, leverage your white privilege against the system, push for progressive candidates and policies down ballot. Trans friends, please go ahead and amend your documents, because this may not be an available option after the next seventy days. Women and others, please consider a long term birth control option such as an IUD and stock up on OTC morning after pills, as Trump wants to repeal the ACA which made birth-control pills free and his administration will likely not favor reproductive freedoms: LINK
I refuse to bow down to social injustice, because your lives matter to me.

Damn.

Dan Rather is melting.

quote:

Secretary Clinton has conceded. It is now official.

Well the polls were wrong - very wrong, most journalists were wrong - and the earth has been shaken with an earthquake of a magnitude many didn't see coming. This is Brexit on steroids. We are entering into uncharted territory as a nation with a now president-elect who has run roughshod over the norms of American presidential campaigns. Clearly a silent but vocal majority has poured forth and pulled down the status quo in Washington with an energy that is echoing not just across the United States but around the world.

America is divided, not along geography as it used to be, but within states between races, educational levels, and urban vs. rural. This is a county by county map and clearly there were many voters who felt overlooked by a new world order who have roared with vengeance. They will not be by forgotten any longer.

No doubt many will disagree but I do not believe Hillary Clinton lost because she is a woman. My analysis is that a majority of voting Americans ached for change, especially structural changes in the economic system. They believe the American middle economic class has been mostly lost and they want it back.

There is sure to be deep despair amongst Clinton supporters who seemed to be tasting the sweetness of victory for most of the campaign. I have heard from many who feel like they are staring into an abyss. Many of you have posted on this page, there is palpable fear about the future of the nation, of the world. But this is the verdict of the American people and we must accept it. We also must work on the process of hope, healing and a re-dedication to unity.

It may be unbelievable to think now, but we cannot fogo our values. Flush with victory, will Trump change his tune at all? He has always been a mercurial man who has shown very little of a policy compass. His supporters will allow him to do anything. And perhaps he can build a bridge we never saw coming. Hope is father to the thought, I grant you. But it is a hope.

I have seen dark days - after Pearl Harbor, during Vietnam, in the depths of the Civil Rights Movement. I still believe that most Americans are kind and decent people, including--overwhelmingly--those who voted for Trump.

I still believe we can work together. If Donald Trump does indeed win, I pray for him tonight to be a wise and magnanimous leader. I pray that he is not bound by the limits of party. I pray that he can prove his critics wrong. I pray for my country. I pray for its leaders of all political parties. I pray for my country and my countrymen. I pray for the future.

Talk about burning some serious bridges (unless your family already knows you're crazy.) I have several cousins who were vocal Clinton supporters, and a statement like this would never cross my mind. My family simply means too much to me.

This one is Nicolas Sparks' cousin. I like this better than anything Sparks has ever written.

quote:

Prepare to protect abortion clinics, with our bodies if need be.
Prepare to stand in the streets with lgbtq and minority groups.
Prepare to write, kick, scream, and make a fricking fuss about health rights.
Prepare to fight, tooth and nail, to make these frickers fear us, because we have literally no protection from the worst motivations and ethics of our culture now.

I highly recommend no one cross me today. Literally sick to my stomach with this country and the hate it is filled with. As a minority, I do not feel safe in this country.

I'm going to do what I did when I had cancer (because, let's face it: America--and the world--got the big C diagnoses last night; and the reeling we're all doing is just like that experience).

I will shepherd my resources wisely.

I will keep my interactions positive to the best of my ability, and shield myself and those around me from despair and toxicity.

I will focus on healing, of which forgiveness within and without is a huge part.

I will face the crucible of the illness with courage, determination and a fully indulged sense of humor.

I will harness the awesome power of love.

Guys, it's a very long way out of this tunnel. And it's so hard to walk into it, knowing that through is the only way out.

But there is light. There is always light. Held by the universe, and most of all, each other.

Love you. ??Wendy
