As a vociferous NeverTrumper, I posted a ton against Trump. So it's only fair today to recognize his victory, and offer some thoughts. Comments by other NeverTrumpers, grudging Trump/antiHillary voters, and even full-throated MAGA4EVER Trumpkins taking a victory lap are welcome.

I opposed Trump every step of the way through the primary. I withheld support for either candidate in the general, judging them both to be unacceptable. Hillary's failings are obvious to all but her most diehard supporters. She is truly an odious human being (her uncharacteristic concession speech notwithstanding). But I thought Trump unelectable because he was even MORE broadly repugnant. My own judgment of him was that he was an ignorant, vindictive, authoritarian arse. I thought (and posted) that if by some miracle I could myself choose the president, I would give it to Trump, giving him an 80% chance of being a better president than Hillary would be, but a 20% chance of being even worse.

So I wasn't going to shed tears for him if he came up short.

I thought Trump couldn't win because he was too unpopular, and that has been proven wrong. I now hope I was also wrong regarding my evaluation of Trumps character, aims, and ability. I can't be a Trump supporter. I feel no personal affinity for the man. Probably will never be able to do so. But where we agree, I can support what he does (such as repealing Obamacare). If he really wants to do great things, he has the opportunity.

So congrats, Trumpkins. Regarding Trump's electoral chances, you were right and I was wrong. Regarding Trump's future administration, I sincerely hope that pattern holds.

Thanks. Trump, to me, represented a true independent voice. GOPe types are just more establishment, and I don't understand the appeal, at all.

I honestly don't think any of the GOPe candidates could have won last night, given the states Trump took.

I was a never Trump Cruz missile after being a Trumpkin for the start of the campaign. After Cruz dropped I had a hard look and realized that America's hope was for Trump to be elected. I didn't think he could do it but I felt the massive shift happen in October. I'm so glad that I voted for Trump in the first election I've ever participated in.

I've said it several times on here already but I'm an American first, liberal second. The people have spoken.

My sentiments exactly. Trump offered an outsiders shot even though he had to do it under the R brand.

In.

The giant meteor I was hoping for never materialized.

But at least this was the next best option.

If only for the MSM and west coast melt.

I wish you could appreciate the incredible, historic and truly American moment this is, a govt outsider against a multi-billion dollar machine composed of so many forces, Politicians from left and right, Wall Street, Media and other Big Interests, and won it with a message to the citizens to stand up against all the crap going wrong today.

Honestly? If Hillary had won, and I posted here at all, I probably would have indulged in some recriminations against Trump primary voters for throwing the most winnable election of all time.

But Trump pulled it out. So for those Trumpkins inclined to rub NeverTrumpers' noses in Trump's victory... I won't even hold it against them. This is their time to celebrate. They suffered the slings and arrows, so they should reap the reward.

I do appreciate the historic nature of Trump's victory. I was a Cruz voter, and one of the biggest reasons I supported Cruz was because he fought against both the Democrat and Republican establishment. He shared that message with Trump.

I thought that Trump was merely running as an outsider, but would become an insider again should he attain office. I certainly hope I am wrong about that.

Do you like Rudy Giuliani, Newt Gingrich, Ben Carson and Reince Priebus?

If so, you can relax. It's gonna be okay.

I don't really like any of those guys, for different reasons. Better to mention Pence and Sessions. But in the end, Trump is going to be Trump. He may be influenced, but he's not going to be led by anyone else. My hope is that he isn't who I thought he was.

It wasn't "the most winnable election of all time". That's simply bullshite at this point. Trump's message and Rust Belt strategy is what put him over the top. Could you see Rubio or Cruz winning states like Michigan or Pennsylvania? Not a fricking chance

You mean the Pennsylvania where Toomey won reelection to the Senate? Sure Cruz could have won. He also could have won Wisconsin. You can call bullshite all you want, but Trump's performance isn't record-setting. 4 years ago Romney pulled in nearly 61 million votes, going against a far superior candidate to Hillary. Back in 2004, Bush pulled in 62 million votes. Trump has yet to crack 60 million.

Hillary was god awful. People were looking for ways to reject her. Hell, she almost lost her primary to an actual socialist who only began running as token opposition. That's why I thought this election was so winnable.

But whatever I thought about the chances of other candidates is beside the point, now. Trump won.
