anybody hit this up in recent years? we used to go as kids probably 30 years ago and always had the best time, thinking about taking our kids back and doing some things with them that we used to do. is it any good anymore?

We took my Boy Scout Troop up there for a Camping and hiking weekend (we climbed to the top of the mountain) which included the laser light show.

If you are a "Southerner" you will probably enjoy it in a more personal way than someone that didn't grow up in this part of the country.

If the park is crowded get there earlier so you can get a good seat if you want to lay on the grass. You can rent small pavilions or more accurately sections of terraces with chairs to have a great view.

There are actual YouTube videos of the event if you want a spoiler.

It was still good in 2015 when we stayed at Stone Mountain.

sounds just like it was 30 years ago, lol. i remember getting to the lawn early and setting up, running around, buying glow necklaces and such... it used to be really awesome show, or at least as i remember it

It's been over 20 years since I went. Hiked up, rode down. Great views. Don't remember much about the laser show.

Went two years ago as an adult after doing it several times as a kid. Was still a lot of fun. Wish we had brought chairs. Laying on the lawn wasn’t as fun as it was when I was 10. LOL

It’s much more built up than I remember it. More shops/restaurants/places to spend money.

If you grew up going and have fond memories, it's the exact same now and still a great time for the kids. We go every year, sometimes twice. It's unapologetically hokie but hard not to have a good time.

great answers here... and for these reasons, we are gonna schedule a trip once things get up and going.

thinking we may make a loop from arkansas and do stone mountain, rock city and ruby falls. basically forcing my kids to do stuff we did

Now, as much as I love Stone Mtn. but I don't know if I would make a trip for Arkansas for it. But like you said if you could combine it with Chattanooga and maybe even up into the Smokies it would definitely be worth it. Sounds like we had very similar childhood experiences ha.
