Long Range, the new novel comes out tomorrow.

Box is one of my favorite writers and his Pickett/Romanowski books are some of the best out there IMPO

Yes, the last couple seemed predictable, but I enjoyed them

Good not great. Detective type series but with the outdoors and hunting settings.

I've been reading the series since it first came out. This is the 20th book in the series. It is refreshing in that the main character, Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett, is by his own admission somewhat of a reluctant hero and would just prefer to do his job and stay out of the mystery solving business. The books can be a bit formulaic but the action at the end makes up for any shortcomings. Will continue reading.

There is another author out there that has the same premise.

Based in CO and the main character is David Wolf, a sheriff. Not quite as good as Box but still readable and interesting. Author name Jeff Carson.

Funny you say that I just downloaded his first book on my kindle. Hopefully the series is good so it gives me something to do while quarantined.

Paul Doiron has a series about a Maine game warden, Mitch Bowditch, that is very similar. In some ways it's better than Pickett, no kids for starters.
