I tore my ACL this past Fall season playing Co-Ed Over 30 soccer. The PT told me that to get back to playing soccer I would need like 4 months of practicing and drills before I could play in a game. Yea....my soccer career might be over...practice.

Every adult league team I’ve played on has at least one guy that’s torn an ACL after getting back into playing. It’s rough out there.

What you need to do is contact PJ at Crescent City Soccer, tell him to call Mike Ritch at Cajun Rush and get a league going.

Did you get surgery?

I did; 4 months out today actually.

9 months is the minimum return for an ACL but I would say a year is probably better. Gives the graft more time to mature.

I am in no rush to get back to playing soccer; but I plan on giving it a go again at some point down the road. I don't have a lot of faith that I would have the discipline to just practice and I am not going to get a trainer/coach. So if I have to run through drills for 4 months before playing a game, it is hard for me to believe that I will play a game again.

ACL rehab is tough but that sounds unnecessary. There are some cutting/agility drills your PT should have you doing around 6 months out or so but doing 4 months of drills sounds nebulous if not unnecessary. Just make sure you are doing strengthening exercises at home. I got ankle weights. Definitely helped.

I hear the men's league gets chippy, but I've found Co ed to be laid back. No slide tackling rule keeps the BS in check. I would have scoffed at that years ago, but I'm happy for it now that I have to work the next day.

I play both. There are definitely some girls in the coed leagues that like to get chippy and throw shoulders. They know they are less likely to get called...and they’re usually right.

the girls are the worst, haha. but after years of taking tackles from men, they're like mosquitoes. I learned to treat them the same a couple seasons back, especially near the 18. a little body weight gets you plenty room to shoot.

Anyone notice how all of the Hispanic pick up leagues start ridiculously late? Like 10pm on a weekday?

What’s more impressive are the middle eastern teams that play during Ramadan. No way I could do that.

I asked a middle Eastern guy about that once. I asked "what if you work outside like on a roof all day in the sun, don't you get water?" he just said no and kinda shrugged his shoulders...thats hardcore.
