CHRIS HERNDON
MIAMI
TE
Overview
Herndon's athletic ability will flash on tape, but his college production was pedestrian and he's still very raw. He has TE2 potential if he can improve his upper body strength and hand placement as a blocker. While Miami used him as a "run after the catch" option, NFL teams may lock in on his ability to threaten defenses on the second and third levels. Herndon has exciting athletic ability, but there is still plenty of room for improvement before he becomes a factor in the NFL.
Sources Tell Us
"He's a good athlete and has ability to make big plays which is what I care about. He's not a soft blocker either. He's just really raw with everything. I'm okay with that. You take those guys later and you let your coaches develop them. It's all coachable for him." -- AFC team executive

Ian Thomas could be a better choice, but he's a project.

We might as well go with a project at TE. I doubt many of the remaining TE's can beat out the 4 TE's that are currently on the roster. If you're going to draft a TE & plan on keeping him as your #4 TE...you might as well go with the guy with a high ceiling.
Obviously, we'll have to cut 1 of our top 4 TE's to accomplish this.

Fleener can kick rocks
Fleener helped get us back into the Redskins game last year. He is not Jimmy G. But he doesn’t need to be. TE is the 4th or 5th option in the offense, at best. He is overpaid. No TE remaining in the draft replaces Fleener this year.

That is not true.
However, he's got a little Ben Watson vibe to him. Complete player at the position who could easily be better than Hayden Hurst.
