Here's the rundown from Tuesday's spring practice at LSU, including updates on the quarterbacks, changes on both sides of the ball and more.
24/7 article turn off you speakers or turn them way down if at work or another place that you don't want to blow people out with unexpected loud sound. Most annoying website on the internet.

We got a good look at the defensive line unit on Tuesday.

The running back competition will be open this offseason, but don't be fooled
There's been some questions about what the future holds for former five-star athlete JaCoby Stevens.

SEC Country recap:
LSU spring football practice report: Old Tigers see something new

“I like this,” noted Etling, who said he hadn’t seen the drill in the last three years. That detail suggests the potential influence of new safeties coach Bill Busch.

Today’s video highlight: Redshirt freshman nose tackle Tyler Shelvin working against Glen Logan. Logan and Shelvin are LSU’s top two defensive tackles at the moment as Ed Alexander sits out with an injury.

Man I'm finally excited about our lines again. It's been quite a while since I could say that. The future really does look bright here at LSU and anyone who says different is blind.
Best WR core we've had in years, best OL we've had in a decade, best DL we've had in years, LB check, safety check, TE check, RB decent, QB decent (need quality depth) and CB is hurting a little.
I'm 100% positive that will be turned around this season and I'm hoping Gunnel see's this tremendous opportunity for himself. QBs should be drooling over the future of this offense. If we can move the ball this year then we should shore up that position as well.
Not worried about CB or RB. With the DL we will have, LSU could play some talented 5* guys their freshman year and look pretty good IMO. We could also sign a couple of talented JUCO guys or sign more grad transfers. GT

The talent is there, but largely unproven, and certainly not better than OBJ and Jarvis.

No.

RB decent
Our running back situation is the worse it’s been in years.

CB is hurting a lot.
I do agree that our DL will be the strongest it’s been in years though.

Point on bengal99. This off line is huge and moves very well. Def line is going dominate and pressure the QB. With our numbers at safety we can help out our corners with double teams IF needed. What really encourages me is the remarks by some of the former players. All positive and they like our new coaches

Well we didn’t sign and 5* RB or CB, so we could do that if we had any.

I am excited about the defensive line. However, we have to find a spot for Jacoby Stevens. We can't even figure out if he should be on offense or defense. But considering we didn't sign a single CB, and two junior CBs declared for the NFL, I would say we need to find a spot on defense for him in the secondary. But that's just me.

As for as depth a raw talent and it's been years since we've had JL and OBJ.

No.
Again this is the deepest and best raw talent we've had on our OL in a decade, easliy. Still need to prove themselves but it's there and with the addition of the 19 guys, it will get even better.

You have no clue what these guys will do. Just because we don't have that work horse doesn't mean that we don't have talent. Have to use them in a different way but we still have talent and I believe that they will surprise lots of people this year.

I'll agree here.

I agree, no reason to not go at least 10-2.

The fact that it’s the worst it’s been in years doesn’t mean it’s not decent. We have been spoiled with NFL backs since the late 90s.

The difference between 8-4 and 10-2 falls squarely on our QBs.
If we get good QB play, we can go 10-2, if it’s more of the same, it’ll be 8-4.

The only thing that might keep us from going 10-2 or better is the QB situation. If those guys perform like Mett did in 2014 then we will win lots of games. If they get close to his 2014 year we will have a great season.

You beat me to it. But that's the only thing I see that could hold us back this year. Imagine what this team would look like without this OL and DL depth.
I think O needs to learn a few things and everyone does but I think he will at least admit when change needs to come and is decisive about it even if he knows it will hurt his image or trust with some of the fans.
I think that's sad but every fanbase has those people who think they know what's best when they have no idea what is actually going on behind the scenes. Give it some time and I truly think this man is going to get it done even with the negetive Nancy fans foaming at the mouth.
The addition of all these coaches will give out on the field coaches more time with the players and recruits. The analyst can gather info on our scheduled teams, once game week comes, the team will be ahead of the curve, and can start implementing the plan earlier.
We have some quality young men on this roster now. Top to bottom. Keep grinding, keep pushing, and get better depth in here. We don't have many holes and so we can be more selective about who we go after at this point. I like it!!

quote:wrong. We have one of the best cbs in the country. That alone means we aren't hurting a lot. We lack depth, and we lack experience. Worst case scenario is we have to help one side.
CB is hurting a lot.
