Cleaning Turkey Mouth Calls

Just pulled out the calls to start practicing. I'm hesitant to try them out after they have been sitting in a case all off season. What are some methods to clean them before use?

I wouldn't worry about cleaning them necessarily, but you definitely want to get them wet and loosen them up before using them.
Maybe if you're worried about germs, dunk them in listerine?

They are mass produced, and quality control sucks. I buy a bunch and cull half the first day. Then I tweak and tune the remainder until I can find 2 or 3 I like. Then once hunting season starts I use the same one 80% of the time

Clean mine with water-Listerine mix. I do that at end of season and put in fridge.

+1 on water listerine mix before the season starts. Maybe I'm cheap but Ive used the same three mouth call for the last several years. I like the way they sound and birds die...

Vinegar and water is another good way. Something like 2:1 Water:Vinegar and soak for maybe 10 minutes. Rinse off with some warm water and dry with a paper towel, then toss in a Ziploc if you don't have a case until next season.

If you didn't store them in the refrigerator since last year, you might be better off throwing them away and getting some new ones.

Quaker Boy old boss hen. I’ve been buying this call for 20 years and every one sounds exactly the same.
