ipilot link needs humminbird. regular ipilot is stand alone so it doesn't matter

Thanks!
Pretty sure the shop was trying to make my dad spend more money.

It works with the remote that comes with it. And it has its own gps built in for anchor lock and trail memory.
Im sure theyre right in that if you want it to work with your gps/fishfinder, maybe only hummingbird. I dont know the appication for this, but not imperative for catching fish.

Grassy1 is correct, can only link hummingbird to it.

We've got one on the Nautic Star w/Lowrance unit as well. Like mentioned, it has a remote for all the functions.

My dad is upgrading his to an auto deploy system due to health.
He has his other unit which is less than a year old for sale if interested vs buying a new model. It is saltwater version

if you do any trolling at all with the trolling motor it is amazing to link it to your fishfinder. It will follow contour lines and you can have it navigate to waypoints. Motorguides connect to Lowrance but I am not sure if they have the autodeploy.

I pilot only works with Humminbird depth finders. They have a contract with them.
Motor Guide Xi5 only works with Lowrance. They have a contract with them.
If you want to link your I pilot to your depth finder then you need a Humminbird. That is it if you want to be able to use your expensive i pilot to it's fullest capabilities.

without connecting it to your depthfinder/GPS, you can still use most features. Auto stow/deploy, spot lock, track record, etc.

True, but you are missing out on some great features without using your depth finder. Such has having it navigate your boat to a new wave point while you rerig or just take a break, drink, eat, and check the OB board.

that's the only feature you don't get unless you're connected. I think the other features are more beneficial

If that is it then that really is not that bad. Hold feature is probably the one that everybody uses the most.
