I love stories like this, so heartwarming
For Reasons Unknown is the name of the song BTW

It’s so good

The Killers were playing in Australia when the lead singer, Brandon Flowers, spotted a sign in the crowd. The sign was held up by 13 year old drummer James Briscoe and said, "Can I please play drums?". After a little deliberation from Brandon, he invited the young drummer to come on stage and play in front of thousands of people. This risky decision from Brandon paid off, as James sat down at the drum kit and put on one of the greatest guest drummer performances ever.
Whole story

Love The Killers

Seen some of these with bands letting fans sing or play guitar, also. I wonder how many of these are set up ahead of time. Seems way too risky to pull some rando out of the crowd and let him bang on your equipment.

Right. They all have to be set up. I have never seen this not work out.

Green Day always lets a fan play guitar for one song and usually gives the fan a free guitar too. Paramore is another band that lets fans play on stage with them, I think the Foo do too

There's a lot to love about this. The kindness of Flowers and the band is on display here as is their humbleness, especially of the drummer, to allow an unknown kid to play with them impromptu like that. How many bands would actually do something like this? Simply incredible.

Then to watch that kid own that song is fricking money! But the best part of it all is the end when you see the pure joy of what will be the best moment of that kid's life.

I absolutely love everything about this. I've always had great respect for Flowers the person (by all accounts he's a legitimately good dude in an industry riddled with shitty people), and this just cements that for me.

I'm going to spin some Killers today while I work.

When they pick an audience member it’s always for that particular song. So whether it’s for the drums guitar or bass the person has practiced that song. They explain this in the article I linked

Same

That's great and I like how The Killers, and some other bands have seemed to make this a tradition. It's not just cool and generous in the moment but it's getting the next generation of kids directly involved in keeping rock alive.
