In the past few years ive really become a big sci-fi reader. Specifically, space related but there are exceptions. A few of my favorites, in no order:

1) expanse series
2) seveneves
3) dune (slightly hard to read at first due to terminology but quickly got used to it). The follow ups are queued up
4) “flood” and “ark”
5) titan
6) andy weir books

If you’re into this genre I’d appreciate your recommendations. Ive heard ringworld is good. Might try it next

Ya they are really goos, I loved the second one - one of my favorite Sci fi books.

Res rising has a more modern feel and is a pretty quick and easy read. Has a bit of a younger audience feel in book 1 but picks up quickly.

Asimov and Heinlein you want to get to as just two of the classic authors.

Ringworld is definitely a fun, light read. It's not Hitchhiker's Guide fun and light, but it's definitely not serious like Dune or Foundation.

I really loved the Red Mars trilogy from Kim Stanley Robinson, though some of Robinson's more recent writing is bad.

I absolutely love these books. Though everyone I've lent them to have not gotten past the first one. I guess its an acquired taste.

Have you read the Redemption of Time book?

No I read some mixed reviews and read a synopsis that didn't really grab me.

I'm 2 for 2 on loaning 3BP books.

I really liked it. The writing style is different than the original author's but still a good read.

Also take a look at the Old Man's War series, if you are looking for more space adventure type books.

Ok, i'll give it a second look - gonna have to put it on the list for next year though. I think I'm going to work through the full foundation reading order here soon

Also a good call. The gap cycle is also a great space opera, but the first book is fairly brutal in terms of content.

Belongs near the top of any sci-fi book recommendation. Absolutely mind blowing series. Loved the game theory of dark forest deterrence.

I started a reread of the first book last night. I forgot how interesting the backstory of the Chinese Cultural Revolution was, which sets the stage for why Weinji does what she does.

I'm surprised the Chinese censors allowed such a candid description.

I don’t really like any of the sci fi you listed (especially Weir) but my favorite Sci fi authors are Stanislaw Lem and JG Ballard.

Dark Forest was one of my favorite reads over the last five years. I don't have a ton of exposure to sci fi outside of what I listed and a handful of other books, but it is definitely one of my favorites

gap cycle was almost too brutal in description for me through 1.5 books. Last 3 books were really good I thought, interesting alien species and for a big space adventure - the story feels really small and contained as it is so focused on the characters. I won't go into any spoilers but changes the readers initial feelings about nearly every character rather drastically by the end of the series.
