These frickers have taken over several places in my back yard and I’m seeing them in my neighborhood.

Any idea what they are? Should I leave them alone or eradicate these ugly bastards?

Their lives hang in the balance of the outdoor board’s feedback.

Definitely a crab spider. We used to catch them as kids. The shell is hard like a crab. Pick him up by grasping the points on the sides. Or don't if you are squeamish about spiders.

Looks like the official name is “Spiny Backed Orb Weaver” aka “Gasteracantha cancriformis“

I'm also seeing those and the banana spiders.

Interesting to watch.

With the way the flies have been this year I'd welcome a few thousand of these little crab spiders in my yard.

Yea that's an orb weaver aka crab spider.

They are everywhere at my place in the fall. I noticed they were coming back last weekend when I cut grass. They usually aren't aggressive to humans in my experience because I run through their webs all the time. I've had them all over me cutting grass near the tree line and never been bitten.

Google says even when they do bite, it's not dangerous to humans.

I don't care for spiders at all but I go out of my way to keep from harming these little guys. They are harmless and don't bite at all.

I will go out of my way and pick them up and move them to another location if they are in my way. I do the same for the little jumping spiders.

Most other spiders get the squash and toss treatment.
