Friend of mine has a place in Marengo County, AL with a big creek bottom on it. There’s a huge (to me) mound on it maybe 200 yds off the creek. Mound is about 6-8’ tall, 3-500’ long and maybe 150’ wide. He’s traveled up and down the creek on most of the neighboring properties hunting and says these are all up and down the creek for miles.
I wish there was really good ground penetrating radar that could be used to see what was under there without digging it up. I’d be super curious to see the things myself, but not at the cost of potentially unearthing someone’s ancestors. Bad juju there imho.

I think a lot of the mounds were built, just as a place to go quick when there were floods, especially in big creek and river bottoms.
