This is kinda old news but yes, Trump was right. Very few media covered it because they had invested so much with claims it did no good.

I remember my wife showed me that video and I immediately dismissed her and it. That was before I was "red pilled." It's easy to see how you can even subconsciously just accept what the media tells you as fact. It wouldn't have caused me to vote against Trump, but I can see how I was going down that path. Propaganda media is a VERY dangerous thing for a supposedly free country.
