Booking a trip for late July for a family event. We’ll need to cross the causeway a few times, but we’ll spend most of our time near the city.

We’ve stayed at the Alder before and loved it. For $109/night and breakfast included, it’s a hard deal to beat. We stayed there about three years ago though. Recent reviews say the area around Ochsner has gotten sketchy. It wasn’t exactly Mayberry when we stayed there, but I never felt unsafe.

Also looking at the Marriott at Lakeway. $180/night doesn’t seem worth it though even if it looks like a swankier hotel.

You apparently are looking for a Metairie hotel and a cheap one.
Not making fun of it, but this will help with the suggestions.

Area around Alder has not changed dramatically in past 3 years. It is still 3 blocks from the Salvation Army residential building and the nearby Freret St business district.

Hamptin Inn or Comfort Inn if you don't want to do Lakeway

I'd even add the Holiday Inn or Courtyard off of Causeway near I10. IMO, you should look into staying in this area because it will be less expensive than Lakeway, and you are right off of I10 for an easy Uber/Lyft ride into the city.

The area around Ochsner has gotten a little sketchier, but still not a terrible area.

I was kind of confused when I first read your post and the mention of the Alder Hotel near Ochsner, and describing the area around Ochsner as becoming sketchy. Other than their on-site Blair House for patient families, I knew of no hotels near Ochsner. I also had never heard of the Alder Hotel.

After looking the Alder up, I found that the Ochsner you were referring to is Ochsner BAPTIST campus (formerly Southern Baptist Hospital) not the main, original campus which is on Jefferson Highway in Jefferson Parish. Ochsner Baptist is in New Orleans proper, in the Broadmoor/Uptown section.

If you are looking to stay closer to Causeway in much safer Metairie, you might also want to look into the three hotels on Severn between I-10 and Vets- Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites and Homewood Suites by Hilton (both brand new), and the Comfort Inn and Suites at Copeland Tower (recently renovated).

As mentioned above. The Adler is not on Jefferson Hwy by Ochsner Main Campus, it is in New Orleans on Claiborne and Napoleon, at least 10 min further from Causeway.

I’d keep checking the Marriot Lakeway as it is worth the extra IMO. Also they usually drop to around 100 a night the closer you get.

Also the Sheraton by the Galeria is decent hotel.

The Homewood Suites and Fairfield on Severn are relatively new and in a very safe area.
