Looks so similar to centipede to me. How do you guys tell?

Blades a little wide and rounder?

Yes, and centipede has an alternate leaf arrangement on the stolon (top) and St Augustine an opposite leaf arrangement on the stolon (bottom)

St aug

Cut it high and bag the first mow. Or you can take all that thatch(dead grass) out of there. Looks healthy.

Little different opinion. Drop the mower one notch on the next now and bag. Thatch isn’t dead grass, thatch is the organic layer between the soil and crown of the grass. Top left corner looks like dead runners.

Didn’t want to start a new thread so I bumped this one. Could someone help me identify what kind of grass I have?

have to say I’ve not seen centipede that long and that green this early in the year. Cut it at a height of 1.5 to 2 inches in height, though you might want to target that height after a couple cuts, not removing more than a 1/3 of the height per cut.
