I was curious if anyone had a suggestion for fantasty series. In particular, something of a similar flavor to ASOIAF by George RR Martin.

I loved the show and read the books and now my watch has begun waiting for The Winds of Winter.

We have a massive thread going with a bunch of recommendations.

But you should probably go with The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie.

No problem. Abercrombie is the person most often compared with Martin so you probably want to start there. Tons of other great fantasy out there as well with a different feel.

Seconded First Law Trilogy. Also look into the Gentlemen Bastards series by Scott Lynch. Though Lynch is pulling a Martin by taking his sweet time finishing the most recent book .

Ya it is great, but OP may get frustrated with another series with no conclusion in sight. But the first GB book is essentially stand-along so somewhat insulated.

This. Mark Lawrence and Rob J Hayes are also good choices if you are looking for gritty, low magic fantasy.

You can also just read lies of locke lamora and treat it as a single book series as mentioned.

I'm reading the Malazan series now, Gardens of the Moon. It reads similar to Dune though. Not as easy a read as ASOIAF.

You might want to check out Patrick Rothfuss’ Name of the Wind...it and its sequel, The Wise Man’s Fear are both excellent (and very long books)...unfortunately, as with Martin, we’ve been waiting years to get the third book in the trilogy and I’m wondering if it’ll ever get done...but they’re still worth reading...

Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series is good as well...but very long (14 books worth, 15 if you include the prequel)...good thing about it is all the books are out, so no waiting in between the books...

I did wheel of time starting a year ago and finished it up this summer. Loved it tho did take a break during the slog. Amazon should have the show out hopefully next year maybe late this year. Started mistborn it took a bit to get into the first book but liked it a lot by the end of it.

Said in other thread, I am reading the Spellmonger series by Terry Mancour. It is really good and Mancour creates and entire sci-fi/fantasy universe around magic and spaceships. Pretty neat.
