Yeah, I have been hearing really horrible things about coyotes lately. I saw one on my local Nextdoor app taking out dogs.

Possum's are nearly 100% immune to rabies.

Yeah, possums are pretty misunderstood creatures.

And you'd be way wrong. They're nearly 100% immune to rabies and other diseases, nearly immune to snake venom so they snack on snakes, and pretty much take care of other pests in your neighborhood. They're actually awesome to have around.

Unless you have chickens. They love to get into my coops and eat the eggs

How sure are y'all it was an actual opossum that attacked the cat? Did your gf actually witness the attack? I am not questioning your intelligence, so please don't be offended. I am just wondering if the actual attack was witnessed? I do believe it's possible if the cat went after it.

I saw the tail end of it happening after I heard the cat screaming bloody murder. She's sweet to humans but very territorial and defensive of the house and backyard. She will aggressively go after anything, even the neighbor's cats, that enters the backyard. So I'm willing to bet she went after the opossum and the rascal got a good bite or two in.

To all the trashy downvoters:

In the United States alone, outdoor cats kill approximately 2.4 billion birds every year.LINK

You can have your cat, just keep it inside your house. They go well with the indoor smoking and tin foil window treatments.

Sounds like the solution.

Go to the shelter, look around, and come back with a new girlfriend.

The kitty got pretty dinged up - bleeding on her abdomen, face, and one of her paws. The GF (no pics) won't stop sobbing about "her baby," wondering if she should lock the cats inside from now on.

FINALLY! The day I have been waiting for....

Pussy has been defeated!

You know how shitty you have to be to get trashed by a possum? A possum will only fight back as a last resort. Even then they are slow AF. Kitty HAD to be the aggressor. All it had to do was walk away. Even take a nap right there then walk away. If you mess with the bull.........well, you know the rest.

Opossums look like they carry every disease in the book. Nasty frickers.

Actually the opposite and they don't get rabies either. However they do love outside cat bowls with cat food in it and this is probably what started the fight.
