It isn't the Bluffs, but the hill on 4 is substantial for BR. You play off the same hill on 7. And 9 is a little down, too.
I would call that elevation changes and can't think of anywhere in town that has that type of elevation change, really.

4 tee box is 51’ to 25’ at lowest point of fairway. Then 6’ up to green.
8 played the same elevation opposite.
7 plays over same hill to a low green.
Yes I am a map nerd.

The Bluffs 17 has a 50’ drop from original back tee box. The newer back tee is a few feet higher but looks butt arse ugly.

Do you still play 6 from the “bottoms” up to the green on that peninsula ridge? That was a tough second shot back in the day.

Yep, it's still an uphill shot into the green on 6. Really, 1-3 and 5 are the only holes without some sort of elevation change.

It’s been shortened I think. But still my favorite hole. Good green.

Back in the day the tee box was near five and it was a medium four with a second shot up to a shallow green up on that ridge.
4, 6, 7, 8 and 9 all took advantage of the hills. 5 was the only hole all in the bottoms. 1,2 and 3 were all flat.

It's actually a pretty good design use of the property. The hill is used about as much as you can.
There are a couple of things I'd change aesthetically, but the routing is about as good as it could be, unless you let me start more towards the parking lot taking out the park aspect behind 1 tee

It could be great if the right architect was given the property to improve. A shorter course still retaining some of the old features may work.
It’s in the national historic registry so not sure how much changes could be made.
I hate the new 5th hole. I understand they needed to make a change but that green just doesn’t look right on that course.

I kind of agree. It doesn't feel like any other hole in the course.
My dream scenario would be to expand 8 green and 1 green into a double green.

Yes it was.the
I always wondered how things would have built an 18 hole course incorporating the hills west of the course and the area around the lake.
I was a kid and before I10 was built there was a big baseball park where the Dalrymple/10 interchange is now. I remember riding by at night and seeing the lights on.
Back when City Park was built the area where the course is now along with property west of Dalrymple would have made a great spot for a great 18 hole layout with hills and everything.

Like that idea.
If 3 tee was moved up 40 yards you could move 2 green to the right and have a short dogleg. 3 green could moved 30 yards away from RR track and that would make room for a cool tee shot for 4. You could put 4 tee closer to road and have a really different angle. Although I like 3 green as is.

And fill in that damn collection area in front of 8 green.

Love that collection area. But they need to mow it tighter so you can putt when you're at the bottom.

No, it's stupid. You shouldn't have a 210 yard uphill hole that doesn't allow people to run their shot up onto the green.

What do you guys hit on that hole now? It was a bear when we played there in the 70s.

Yes, worth the play. “Little Augusta” since it has terrain. It’s a historic course too. You can easily walk it and just be sure to play fast, even if you don’t play well.

15 to 20 foot elevation changes on at least 4 holes.
