Purdue Pharma pleaded guilty Tuesday to three criminal charges, formally taking responsibility for its part in an opioid epidemic that has contributed to hundreds of thousands of deaths but also angering critics who want to see individuals held accountable, in addition to the company.

In a virtual hearing with a federal judge in Newark, New Jersey, the OxyContin maker admitted impeding the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s efforts to combat the addiction crisis.

Purdue acknowledged that it had not maintained an effective program to prevent prescription drugs from being diverted to the black market, even though it had told the DEA it did have such a program, and that it provided misleading information to the agency as a way to boost company manufacturing quotas.

Doesn't matter. This isn't over. Until the Sackler family personally is held accountable, there are many DAs that will not stop.

That family should suffer the most horrible punishments imaginable. It's a shame I don't believe in Hell, because I'd love for them to be there.

I understand punishing Perdue and the family that owns Perdue, but will they be going after the thousands of doctors who happily went along prescribing OC like Skittles to opioid addicts as well?

Good. frick those people. Hopefully, this is just the beginning.

Trying to push OxyContin as a nonaddictive pain reliever was complete bullshite on their part. Even when presented with evidence from outside their firm (which I'm sure they knew anyways), they still tried denying it. Then, the paying off of doctors too.

I'm all for people taking responsibility for their actions if they're addicts, but this company providing false information and evidence to the contrary was complete bullshite and they knew it. frick dem.

Hopefully. All those doctors who opened "pain management" clinics and would let you pay $250 for a fake mri and prescriptions to OxyContin, roxycontin, lortabs, Xanax, Adderall and percocets were some of the biggest drug dealers of the 2000s. People just looked the other way because they wore a white coat. Had people on the street been doing what they were doing, they would have been buried under the jail.

They have gone after some in wrongful death cases - but setting an example at the top needs to be priority #1
