I do. He lives in the baton rouge area. We've talked a few times and I've let him borrow a IP camera I had bought for him to review. Guess he didn't like it as he never posted the review. He's a resource I recommend for anyone looking into Home Assistant.

Thanks! I do have to admit, I had someone ping me about this thread. Always cool to jump into various threads and such and interact with folks.

I did pull the NVR footage from that camera setup and it stayed up about 45 minutes after power died. Pretty crazy stuff at 2am that night.

If there are enough locals around that want to meet up, chit chat home automation, etc, or even some sort of workshop thing to show a few things on how stuff works, let me know. I think it would be pretty cool to do.

So to give you a run down, I feel this board was heavily into Wink/Smartthings automation for the past years. and with Wink basically folding and the heavy smartthings users looking for more control, HA has started to be talked about more and more.

I was a heavy smartthings user and i ended up moving house at the beginning of covid, and my plan was to set up HA at the new house. Based on all my internet research, you, Dr Zzs, The Hook up, and BurnsHA are the go to channels to follow for all things HA.

I shopped for used mini PC and found some great deals so i now have a mini PC running proxmox with a HA VM running. Then i had my 2nd kid and most of my free time went away. Soi still plan to get my new home back up and running but time is few and far between to dig back in. and HA isnt as straight forward as ST but i totally understand that you have to give that up for this level of customization.

BTW CAD, please dont touch HA. Remember anything you touch goes to shite. Wink, C By GE, etc. so please stay away.

If you manage to frick up an open source project, then you might have a skillset that some companies would find very valuable.

Yeah I started with SmartThings due to a friends recommendation. I hade it for a couple months and it drove me insane with the layout and limited capabilities. I was digging around on my unRaid box and saw this Home Assistant thing in the app store. Mashed install and I had this interface looking at me. It even found tons of stuff from Google Homes, Rokus, printer, etc all by itself. I could even make my Google Homes talk by just clicking them. The rest was history... it quickly changed from with SmartThings of "I wish I could do this..." then with HA it was "What?!? You can really do that?"

It has definitely come a long way in the past year or two. Stuff is so much easier to do now, mostly just doing GUI stuff.

So im having an issue with ESPHome on my home assistant. Im not getting access to the api.platformio.org. I have found it is a DNS issue. but i can not find anyone else with the same issue i have. Everyone else is running it on a RPi and the firewall PiHole is blocking it. Im running HA on a nuc via proxmox. and i dont think i have DNS issues with proxmox but it could be the docker0 and i do not know enough about proxmox and VM to really diagnose this. It also could be the shitty ATT gateway that could be blocking it. So im out on ESPHome until i figure this out.

well fixed it some how.
