So to give you a run down, I feel this board was heavily into Wink/Smartthings automation for the past years. and with Wink basically folding and the heavy smartthings users looking for more control, HA has started to be talked about more and more.

Yeah I started with SmartThings due to a friends recommendation. I hade it for a couple months and it drove me insane with the layout and limited capabilities. I was digging around on my unRaid box and saw this Home Assistant thing in the app store. Mashed install and I had this interface looking at me. It even found tons of stuff from Google Homes, Rokus, printer, etc all by itself. I could even make my Google Homes talk by just clicking them. The rest was history... it quickly changed from with SmartThings of "I wish I could do this..." then with HA it was "What?!? You can really do that?"

It has definitely come a long way in the past year or two. Stuff is so much easier to do now, mostly just doing GUI stuff.
If there are enough locals around that want to meet up, chit chat home automation, etc, or even some sort of workshop thing to show a few things on how stuff works, let me know. I think it would be pretty cool to do.

Nice! Welcome! I hope your family made it out of Laura safely. My brother lives over there and when i drove in that afternoon, man it was rough.

Thanks! I do have to admit, I had someone ping me about this thread. Always cool to jump into various threads and such and interact with folks.

I did pull the NVR footage from that camera setup and it stayed up about 45 minutes after power died. Pretty crazy stuff at 2am that night.
I added a comment to my Laura aftermath video description for CarRamrod on the last line.
I thought the Lake Charles area was considered Texas?
