Great Film. Stars Kris Kristofferson, Chris Cooper, Chest McConaughey before he hit it big, and Elizibeth Pena who was like a fine wine in this film, but that was 25 years ago. She was sexy af.

Good screenplay and some WTF suprises in the third act. Recommended.

Yup. I actually saw it at the movies. My circle of friends still laughs at the line where the drill sergeant asks the black female private what she though the purpose of the military was:

Killin' yellows

We try to work it in to normal conversation whenever we can.

Great movie, but I think Matewan was Sayle's best.

I knew nothing about his work, reputation or prowess until I watched an old Siskel and Ebert review of Lone Star. Lone Star was just a movie I really enjoyed but Sayle is really respected. I haven't done so yet but I'll watch what you've suggested and he has a few others too.

(edit) Just watched a Matewan trailer. James Earl Jones and Chris Cooper again! Mining issues in WV I think? The trailer was purposely vague. With linguistically authentic accents? I'm in!
