The Vortex only because I’ve had to use their warranty and their customer service is the best.

I can’t speak to Athelon, I have 5 Vortex Razors of various mags.
Have had exactly one issue in the last 5 or 6 years. One of my 1-6’s was moving poi when you changed power.
I called them on a Monday, they sent a new one which I got on Thursday. Put the old one in the box and sent it back.
I use my glass too. Lots of shots, lots of dialing on the long range stuff.
I’ve got Nikons, Leupolds, and NF scopes other than Vortex. Other than a Nightforce, I’ll never buy anything other than Vortex.

If I wanted a 1-8 I'd get the Vortex just for their customer service. I've looked through the Strike Eagle 1-6. It's really tough to get a 6X scope at that price range without giving up something, typically a tiny eye box at the upper range. I can't imagine the 1-8 is any better at it than the 1-6.

You could probably get a better scope for similar money with a 1-4 or 2-7 (if anybody makes those any more); something with a smaller magnification range.
