2020 Defense Outlook

Breaking down our roster and listening to different radio hosts in the BR area, I’ve come up with my best guess as to what the defense look is going to be. Ed and Bo have both mentioned that although we are switching to a 4-3 defense, we will be multiple in many fronts and Ed mentioned the 4-2-5 specifically with a Nickel/ extra safety in the game. With the departure of Eric Monroe and Marcel Brooks within the past month, this just solidifies the fact that JaCoby Stevens will be playing a more WLB position or technically a safety in a 4-2-5 playing closer to the line of scrimmage. I This will allow Karey Vincent to come in and play the FS roll or move outward and play the nickel depending on the play/down. Here’s what I’ve got our updated roster looking like. I know Ed has given out a little different depth across the DL but I think this is what we will see with the lighter DE playing a true WDE roll, as the heavier DE play a more true SDE roll.
SDE Thomas 93 JR McClendon 84 JR Gaye 62 JR
DT Logan 97 SR Farrell 92 SR Roy 99 FR
NT Shelvin 72 JR Ika 62 SO Guillory 90 FR
WDE Anthony 46 SR Ojulari 8 FR Webb 39 FR
SLB Cox 19 SR Thornton 43 SR White 10 FR
MLB Clark 35 JR Baskerville 23 JR Sampah 34 FR
WLB(Hybrid) Stevens 3 SR Lee 6 SO White 10 FR
CB Stingley SO Jones 29 FR McGlothern 2 FR
FS Vincent 5 SO Hampton 14 SO Lewis 31 SR
SS Harris 4 JR Stevens 3 SR Toles 21 FR
CB Flott 25 SO Ricks 1 FR Ward 16 SO

It doesn't matter. People won't wear masks so we're not going to have a college football season.

I mostly Agree but I think Stevens is going to be all over the place.

Appreciate the effort but it’s hard on the eyes man. Spacing and maybe some bolding Are your friends.

I hope it’s the format that’s the reason for all the downvotes. I think your list is pretty damn good. I’ve gotta think Gaye winds up higher than 3rd string and Ferrell might edge out Logan, but other than a few moves on the DL, I think you’ve got the back 7 pretty spot on. As far as who’s on the field, anyway. Stevens may not be listed at WLB (Vincent may be NB, Harris at FS, and Stevens at SS, but most of that should just be semantics, and I think you’ve got who’ll be on the field the most pretty correct considering what we know on June 29th.
I really hope Bo has evolved and is more flexible than just running a strict 4-3 with traditional positions. Aranda’s genius was getting the best guys on the field doing what they do best to compliment each other. Position names didn’t really matter at all.

Stevens should play LB. He's listed as 6'2 230lbs. He can be versatile at that position. Play Cox and Clark/Baskerville as well.
I also like Vincent on the field. We can always use speed on the field.
ETA: also I agree it is semantics at some point for players like Stevens and others that have played at LSU.

I have not found a good way to put a grid into a post.
tabs don't work, spaces don't work.
I put underscores sometimes, but I don't know that makes it easier to read.

Then get off the board. Stop wasting your time.

I've heard Ed O say several times that Thornton was competing for the middle linebacker slot.
