Anyone fish with a Penn Battle II 5000

Thinking about getting this reel and would like to get feedback from folks that have used them.
I was in Academy Sports and Outdoors yesterday and they only had one reel set up on a Penn Battle II 7 ft. rod with a price of $139 on it. Not a bad price for the rod and reel combo from the looks of it.
Right now I have Shimano and Diawa spinning reels but want something a bit beefier, thus interest in this Penn.
Any feedback would be great, and thanks before hand.

What you plan on fishing with it?

Mostly big cats out of the Mississippi River and the occasional boat trip out to the marsh with my brother-in-law, but the smaller reels would suffice for that.

After years of keeping up with 10 spinning reels for my clients I settled on Pfluegar President . Best bang for your buck Smooth and strong.

That is also one I'm looking at since I've read good reviews on that particular model reel.
And if I'm not mistaken, a bit cheaper than the Penn Battle II.

This is a great reel. Can’t comment on the pole but for what your intentions are I’m sure it’s fine.

Thanks for the feedback. I've narrowed it down to the Penn or the Pflueger President 40 and the price of the Pflueger may make my mind up since it is $30+ cheaper depending on where I order from.
Hell, I've caught tons of nice cats back in the day when I was a kid and into my teens using the old Mitchell 300's on a medium action 7 ft. rod. But that was ages ago and I'm on the downside of 50 years outside my teens.

I have that combo and enjoy it.
I am able to cast with it, and if a fish bites on my lure it then allows me to reel it in. Nothing to dislike.

I fish several Penn Fierce combos and they’ve been great. Cheaper than Battles as well.

Penn fierce 2 are on sale if you can find them. Add in carbonatex washers and it’s almost as good as a battle 2 for much cheaper.

I had the battle it is not bad for the price.
Pflueger President Is okay also.
My only issue with the battle which I bought mine in 2013 was corrosion on the frame which is cosmetic.

I own a Penn battle II 1000/2000/2500/4000/4000/5000/8000
i have pulled in multiple 30 lbs black drum kayak fishing on the 2500 without maxing my drag out without much effort. 4ft black tip sharks on the 4000s and 6-8ft black tips on the 8000. I love the reels, they are absolute tanks. I'm bringing a 1000/2500/4000/8000 and a Shimano SLX DC surf/kayak fishing in orange beach as we speak. Needless to say I love these reels.

I've had a 3000 for several years now and it's a solid reel. A little heavy, but it's tough as nails.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback. Looks like I can't go wrong with either reel, the Penn or the Pflueger.
Now, it's just a matter of me making up my mind which way to go. I need to get to a store and compare them side by side to see which one fits my needs.
While in Academy a couple days ago they had the Penn, but not the Pflueger in stock. May be time to head to Dick's or Cabela's.
Hell, who knows, I may wind up getting one of each.
