I would assume that removes some of the cloak of secrecy and may scare some participants off at a time when the pressure to drink is extreme.

After a few drinks to take the edge off you're not as worried about that.

Yes, but you probably would not know because it is anonymous. Not like anyone could record who is in the Zoom AA meeting.

I can imagine anyone dealing with an addiction is having a tough time. You can’t see your friends, your family or your support group. If you can’t work, that’s 8 hours of no distraction. Hopefully you have a hobby, or you’re sitting in your couch thinking about how much you want to get wasted all day. That’s gotta be mentally taxing quickly.

A substance use counselor that’s in my grad school cohort is doing his meetings via Zoom.

I have several patients attending weekly NA meetings online. They prefer their local groups, but are thankful for the online groups during this time

It would suck to be a recovering alcoholic right now.

I'm not posting that shite ??. I'm a psychiatric provider that works inpatient and outpatient. I'm thankful for the online meetings. Like my patients say, not my favorite, but it helps.

That's the gist I've gotten as well. I know my cohort member is doing 6-8 Zoom sessions a day. He's also a recovering addict himself (10 years sober) and said it's helped especially with the isolation.
