2nd Dresden Files novel announced for this year.
They had a trailer for the upcoming Peace Talks novel released today and at the end announced that the 17th book in the series "Battleground" will be releasing in September 29th (just 77 days after Peace Talks). Apparently Peace Talks was so long he decided to re-edit it and add more stuff to make a 2nd book.

There's a description of the book in the link so might be SPOILERS.

Well that's good then, explains a bunch about why it took so long (outside of his divorce and moving and whatnot). Though I'm not sure why he didn't just post that on his message board at some point, would have probably gotten him less grief from some areas.

People giving an author grief for taking 6 years to write the 16th book of a series aren't worth the time required to give a damn. 15 books is a lot of content, expecially to be put out in 16 years This culture of immediate gratification is obnoxious.

Personally I have thought for the last few books now that he needs to take more time between them. Ghost Story was stale and just really not that good. Changes had some good ideas with a pretty big story point involved, but overall it wasn't up to the standards Butcher had established. Cold days was good, but then Skin Game felt stale. I'm not upset by this, because to produce 12 novels that were engaging and fun is quite a task. To begin to falter after that many is expected.

I hope this next one (two now) is fresh and more original, since he has had plenty of time to work on it.

Yep, and then you throw in an entire other solid 6 book fantasy series on top of that and he was a machine. Though given what has happened with rothfuss and Martin it's understandable for people to be concerned about authors dropping off the face of the map, giving authors crap about it is just dumb.

Speaking for myself, Changes is a top 3-4 novel in the series for me, and I felt cold days was on par with most of the series. Ghost story was definitely the weakest outside of the first couple, but that was kinda expected given the way the story had to be set up.

I thought skin game was really solid overall, but there is some cheese to it that drug it down a bit.

Butcher is Sanderson lite. No way he should be compared to a hack like Rothfuss and I say that as someone who loves the Kvothe character. Dude broke through and won’t publish the last book. Ever. It’s been a decade. It’s not happening.

Bruh. Jk. I read all 15 in pretty quick succession. I loved Skin Game. Butcher has at this point mastered the art of combining Harry's growth as a character with fun genre setups. I was down with the villain heist the whole way, even though a couple of the twists were predictable.

I thought Ghost Story was fine as a change of pace, but Changes and Cold Days on either end of it were his best yet.

As someone who felt Butcher had trouble executing the premise and characters set up in Storm Front for the next several books, the last 3/4 Dresden novels have been a remarkable step up in quality.
